Default Amazon business Account

Hi All, im in the process of registering a new Amazon UK Business account, the query i have is with the company details.

Do i have to register a new business with Companies house, and what about primary contact details? Mine are all my personal details Passport/driving license etc.

My previous account had my passport linked to it, and am really dubious uploading DL details as it states my address (which was the address registered to the previously suspended account)

Any help would be appreciated

No you don't.

Register as as a Sole Prop with Amazon. Give them a UTR number, any number this cannot be checked.

You then follow the stealth procedures outlined in the Amazon Ghost Guide by Aspkin. Choosing a random name and address works fine.

You will NEED to find a VCC / Gift Card that works, there are only 3 in the UK that do. A good choice of phone number is needed as well, try to avoid landlines or forwarding. It can work if done right though.

Add a bank account as soon as you can to the account.

Just had a thought, the UTR this can just be 10 random numbers?

Ask yourself what the UTR is?

What good would become of supplying random numbers?

Am a little confused as to what callidus is referring to then, as I have my personal UTR number and the business UTR number, do not know which was on the suspended account as cant seem to find it on there?

If I put my personal one wont it show that I was the primary contact on the suspended account? I'm sorry if this sounds really dumb, but want to ensure I have everything in place before I proceed and open a new account

Cant really be bothered with a debate but a real UTR is not needed to give to Amazon, only a REAL UTR is needed is when making sure you are putting all your money through the books.

So what is the best way to get round it?

All the paperwork goes to my accountant and is filed legitimately, so I don't have an issue with that, the only thing I'm concerned with is whether or not they would be able to link the 2 accounts through the UTR number?

If they can, what is the best way around it?

The thing is Callidus, amazon as we all know and its well documented supply seller information to HMRC regarding online sellers. If HMRC start to investigate a seller and find false UTR's etc they are going to think "tax evasion". However if its a simple typo from real UTR you would be OK I guess, but making up a complete random number IMO is asking for trouble. If you are paying tax you should have a real UTR.

You wont be getting accused of any tax evasion whatsoever - supplying Amazon one UTR and then paying your REAL tax through the UTR you have been given is NOT a problem whatsoever.

You can tally the accounts anyway, print off sales sheets from the Amazon account and put them through the company accounts.... even if they did knock on your door you have ALL the paperwork in front of you done.

You would have to be very bad at tax evasion especially when all your disbursements are going into YOUR bank account...

Individual - is mainly for private sellers, sell too much you will be asked to upgrade so if you know you're going to go over the threshold start as a business.

Is it still as simple as that with the new €15000 limit? Can you go over this limit with a business account without having to provide proof of id?

All I am saying Callidus is that HMRC have found that you have dishonestly created a false UTR and there theory would be "no smoke without a fire" let looks deeper. And yes your tax records are in order but does anybody really want an investigation.

The only option you are proposing though is creating a company which will not be in your details which will cause the same issues...

If you have previously had an Amz account with a company -they'll be able to link you via the name and address on the company..

I understand where Callidus is coming from, as it seems that Amazon cannot verify these numbers. However, I like the idea of transposing a couple of digits a lot better than totally making up some random number. Because if you are ever questioned by HMRC, explaining the transposed numbers away as a typo will sound reasonable - like an honest mistake that anyone could make. But if the number is completely different, then it is much harder to come up with a believable explanation.

I don't see the typo as fraud, as long as you are properly reporting your income and paying your taxes. Because if they DID investigate, and you had paid your taxes, then the typo explanation would be very easily believable and they probably wouldn't take it further than that. But with a totally made up number, anything would be possible.

I am not trying to argue with anyone here, I respect Callidus, TakingTheMickey and Greenbean, I just always err on the side of extreme caution when it comes to this type of stuff. The last thing you want is to be investigated by the IRS or the UK equivalent of the IRS.

Totally agree jeff, as I said a simple typo can be explained, a random 9 digit cannot. Its like in the US you don't mess with the IRS and in the UK you don't mess with HMRC.
