Default Ebay vs Amazon Customers

Any of you sell the SAME product on BOTH platforms and experience a significant difference in customers good/bad?

It always depends on the type of product you sell. Some of my products being osld for the same price 10 times more on Amazon and some of them never being sold on Amazon but having a massive amount of sales on eBay.

I tend to have less needy customers on Amazon. I only sell about 10% of what on Amazon compared to eBay.

It is like walking on egg shells when dealing with Amazon customers
If the customer says several of certain keywords, its lights out or a definite review of your account.
This doesn't happen on Ebay

I hate amazon but some items are exceptional. Also, you can go and list 100 skews in a few minutes.
To me, it is a totally separate business. I rarely sell the same items across both platforms. For me, in my nitch, ebay sells more in one busy week that a whole year on amazon.
That being said, items that have category restrictions are easier sold on amazon in volumes.
Amazon buyers for ALL of my items are more patient but super needy when they do contact me. I have more scammers on amazon although it is 1/56th the volume on ebay but like I said, not even the same categories so it may not be a fair comparison.

I do not cross sell my items.

Well, of course Amazon will have fewer overall cases and returns since they require you to adhere to strict quality standards. Of course, on eBay, those returns you do have are more likely to be "not as described" and on Amazon, "no longer needed, changed mind".

If the customer says several of certain keywords, its lights out or a definite review of your account.

Absolutely. Amazon loves bots. If a customer asks something like "this is not counterfeit, is it", the listing will be automatically blocked and you have to go through hell with Seller Performance to unblock it.

This doesn't happen on Ebay

I have noticed an interesting trend. If I buy something that turns out to be counterfeit, open a case for it or email the seller regarding that, and return it, and if the seller relists the phake, many times the item gets removed (no idea, obviously, if it is via eBay or vero). I think eBay is using bots too, now.

Amazon buyers immediately contact you if there's an issue

eBay buyers leave feedback/open cases if there's an issue before contacting

I cross sell. Working out pretty nicely for me. eBay has more sales volume but can sell for higher price on Amazon

I have the best experience with customers on Amazon -- seem to always run into grumpy apples on eBay and I sell pretty even volume across both platforms

What really is the point of this post, everyone sells different products. Unless its category defined the whole post is useless. example, I can sell 100 i pads on amazon but only 25 on e bay then thats an example of the sales on different platforms.

Yes, but there are common traits.

On ebay, a buyer from hell will accuse you of trying to start another global financial crisis and spend hours and days fighting you if their £0.99 item does not include a new car.

On amazon, if the £1000 item was smashed to bits in the post the buyer will send a message saying there seems to be something of a bother with the delivery.

I might exaggerate a bit.

I sell the exact same items on eBay and Amazon.

eBay seems to have more rude people, scammers and INR's.

Amazon customers seem impatient, but I have a lot less questions and complaints, hardly any INR's.

I sell twice as much on Amazon as I do eBay, despite being an eBayer for 6 yrs and Amazon 18 months.

There's nothing wrong with the post, it's an interesting discussion.

There's not much point to your post though. He was asking about the customers on each platform, not a sales comparison.

The question is a "your mileage may vary" type thing.

For me, Amazon has much less Customer Service emails.

Also I find that on Amazon the sales rank and reviews on the listing are everything. If you have highly ranked listings where you are the sole seller you are the sole seller you can kill it.

Making Amazon listings is harder because of the UPC and category requirements but overall, they are the bigger marketplace and in most cases you will make more on Amazon with less customer service hassle, IMO.

So what your saying amazon customers don't buy of e bay and e bay customers don't buy of amazon what rubbish. And if you find this an interesting discussion WOW, glad I don't share a beer with you...

The feeling is mutual.

As for your question.. there will be people that buy from both platforms, and people that buy from just one or the other. In my experience, the difference between interacting with customers between platforms is quite striking. I've seen it discussed many times actually, so it's not a new concept.

I'm not sure what you find so upsetting about the thread, but maybe you should go get that beer for yourself before you start creating more drama out of thin air.

I sell mostly the same across both platforms, apart from odd items.

eBay:
Lots of messages from customers
Low prices
A lot of competition
Impatient

Amazon:
Less messages than eBay, and I sell 5-6 times the amount
Less competition, with bad sellers getting banned pretty quickly
Prices on Amazon are at least 25% higher than eBay (items range from £10-40 in most cases)
Strict selling standards, only a problem on new accounts, though

Same on both platforms:
Some buyers can't read descriptions, nor look at pictures, even if they're 1 sentence long.

My experience:

eBay:
-Product price of about 20% less due to Chinese competitors flooding the market.
-Frequent emails about things that could have been answered from reading the description.
-Younger crowd it seems, half the messages don't even make sense.
-Less sales volume

Amazon:
-Parents mostly buying my product for their kids, so basically clueless.
-Returns for absolutely NO reason, 30+ days after purchase, either smashed in pieces or worn so much.
-Higher prices, higher volume.
-Harder to liquidate product when needed (if poor visibility, eBay I could just do an auction for cheap).
