Thumbs down Hello Everyone, I've been victimized!

Hello forum members, I was recently a victim of an ebay screwjob and while I was angry at first, I was more educated afterwards. I had power seller status with 100% positive fb, selling primarily antiques and collectibles. I sold a civil war era 12 pound cannon ball which was brought back by a marine whom installed anti aircraft guns on Fort Sumter in 1943. The auction closed for $185.00, the buyer paid promptly via Pay Pal, shipped and by weeks end had received positive feed back from the buyer. I left great feed back in return and two days later the buyer complained to ebay that I had sent him something entirely different. Ebay immediately refunded the buyer from our pay pal account [I did not even know that they could rightfully do that.] I was given an option to have the item returned for the cost of return shipping [which I did via pay pal] and received nothing back. The buyer refused all of my emails and I never received a return tracking number, I was just out. I wrote ebay concerning the matter again and they responded that they had decided in the buyers favor and that a return would not be required of the buyer. In the end I was out the $185.00 plus $12.95 return shipping that I sent and "the item that I sold." A great ebay buyer screw loop hole for anyone with the heart to return the favor on some unsuspecting, trusting seller. I haven't found it in my heart to use it though the experience was an education. It is a new way for buyers to purchase those pricey items provided they have the initial funds for the payment. Win auction, make payment via pp, leave great feed back, file complaint with ebay that the item is "not as described or significantly different", receive instant refund via ebay and "keep the merchandise!"

you will not get many buyers like this.

so if you generally make money on ebay, then do not let this incident stop you.

So sorry troughsc. Your story makes my blood boil.

We too, sell antique items on Ebay, and occasionally dabble in Civil War Era items. I have long been worried about falling victim to a scammer on them as they are pricey.

If I may be so bold as to inquire did you have a return policy or did your listing state returns were not accepted?

I am having a hard time understanding why Ebay did not require a return although that doesn't mean a determined scammer would return it anyway.

Again, I am sorry for your experience.
