How does amazon taxes work on products? Some have taxes some dont

Can anyone explain how taxes on products with Amazon works?

Lets say I had a iphone 6s in the car and it was no taxes at all then I added a gopro and taxes were on the gopro only and not the iphone. I then added a SSD to the order and it was taxes on the SSD and the GoPro only, the Iphone --No taxes.


So how exactly does this work. Is there certain electronic items that are exempt from tax or any other items?

When you buy directly from amazon, they will apply taxes if you're in a state in which amz has physical presence.

When you don't buy directly from amazon but from a third party seller, you pay tax only if you're in the same state with that seller.

I dontknow about that Rufus.

Like I said I order hose products from amazon directly. Iphone no tax , gopros had tax.

And Im in a state where amazon taxes

Some items are amazon fulfilled which is more than likely what you purchased when you did so for the gopro.

a lot of amazon fulfilled items are not taxed as the seller doesnt have a business in your state.
