Default Customer admits error - Et.sy

I have a customer who's been an idiot and given me the wrong address for an item.

There is no tracking for it.

But he's admitted in a message to me that he has given his old address, and he claims to have no contact details or access to it.

Any one have any experience on how Et.sy will treat this? I assume because there is no proof of delivery it would be refunded to him in full?

It feels like a scam. He's telling me royal mail will have a record of it being delivered even though I've said that he didn't request the tracked service. Or perhaps he is just a moron.

Paid via DC?

Paypal you might have a problem, but if he's admitted this on etsy and it's through direct check out you can just paste the message when case is raised, i would have thought.

Even with out tracking, it sounds to me that he's just played into your hands but then you might end up getting some lame feedback, so you may want to consider if it's a new account and just send him a new one, depending on how much you're losing out.

How much is the item worth?

And yea, Et.sy consumer base can be fairly ignorant and irrational. It always feels to me like a lot of stay-at-home moms or old people who don't understand the internet. It's just different than my normal customer base anywhere else.

Yeah I've known that for a while, I do with Eb.ay now because of their late shipment thing, but for me its very rare this sort of stuff happens other than around xmas. Its a gamble that I don't mind losing occasionally. Just this case irritates me lol

This account I don't have direct checkout on, so if he wanted to be awkward he would go to pay.pal with a case.

I asked for a call from Et.sy to ask about their take on it, the guy said that because he's admitted error in their eyes I'm ok, but it's up to me with how I handle my customer service, they provided an email with details so I could ask him to contact them to look at opening a case.

I'm thinking maybe I could as a good will gesture refund him half the cost (to cover my supplies since he knows and admitted he screwed up) and then refund him the remaining total if it gets returned to me in a week or so.
