I agree with Aspkin.
I had a similar situation with one of my craigslist ads. The scammer pulled my email from the ad, and sent a spoof PayPal message to me. The fact that it's outside of the country leads me to believe this is your case.
The Payment Received emails look just like the real ones, but don't come from PayPal. If the from address doesn't read @paypal.com, it's probably a spoof. You can actually get spoof info at the PayPal website.
PLEASE NOTE: If you clicked on any of the links in the email, I would CALL PAYPAL ASAP, forward the email to spoof@paypal.com, and change your password. These spoof emails contain phishing links, and the sender can obtain personal information from your computer.
Then again; if your PayPal account is a "stealth" account, you might no want to call them.
