How does a refund work?

Hey guys, I had to refund someone for a purchase because they no longer wanted the item. I am fine with that, however I have used a portion of the money I received from the buyer already. When I issue a full refund, the refund will be processed using my bank account because I don't have sufficient PayPal funds, correct? If so, will the funds I originally received from the buyer remain in my PayPal account and will the refund be given back using the funds in my bank account? Let me know, thanks!

Sending a refund from bank account will result in an echeque. Buyers can get frustrated with a delay in their refund. Try to sell something quickly and build your paypal balance prior to clicking refund.

We have a recent thread about this. The forum member for some reason thought the seller was doing something shady because of this, although the member was annoyed to begin with.

I do not have many refunds but when I do, they are from echeck because I tray not to leave any balance in paypal these days. So far, no complaints but they have all been small dollar items. If it was a big purchase, I could see how funds being tied up could be frustrating to the buyer.

For me it comes out as an instant payment.
Perhaps its because I have a VCC attached as well as my bank account meaning theres a back up source of funding should the transfer of funds from the bank account fail.
