Default Least-cost option for maintaining a phone number active

What's the cheapest way to keep a line open for years?

Note, I often neglect to use a phone for many months, so some of the prepaid plans may not work for me since they will get automatically cancelled in such cases.

What I found so far is $20/month plan by Google (Project Fi). What are you guys using?

Find a call forwarding service in the US.

After you've setup the account using a reputable service for phones, switch the number over to the cheap fowarding service (after a few days/weeks).

$20 / month seems expensive. Try research a little, you should find them from less than $10/month.

Tossibledigits is pretty good IMO. Ive had over 20 numbers for over 6-7yrs without a problem and they just added texting to system so for security codes its pretty good.

I use Tracfones Family Value Plan which only costs $9.99 for the first phone and then $5.99 for each phone per month after that. I believe you can do this with up to 4 phones per plan. I currently have 30 phones doing this and they just take payment from my credit card each month. I hope this helps.

I been using the BYOP sim that cost a $1 with triple minutes for life or you can get a cheap tracfone. I use a $20 3 month card from bestbuy x3 60min/txt/web so 180min/180txt/180mb. $20 for 3 months and you can add another card and keep the same number as long as you want just don't let it expire. I plan to order some tracfones though for multiple accounts.

Have you linked any of them with your paypal account? Any issues?

Have you tried it or experimented with? You might have to bite the bullet and do it.
