Default Royal Mail redirection?

Have a quick question regarding the Royal Mail redirection service. From what I understand they send a letter to old address to confirm the redirect has been set up. So supposing I no longer have access to old address, would I be able to use this service or does this letter have to be returned to RM to show person setting up redirect has access to the address? Hope that makes sense.

no, all that happens is a letter is sent confirming redirect and then all mail in the name you have chosen, will be sent to the forwarded address.

they dont expect you to have the redirect letter when collecting mail.

I moved a few years ago, and they send the set up confirmation letter to the old address, ie. they assume it is your current address and you are moving soon........I went in person to the post office though, not sure if it was even available online then.....

I then got a letter 6/12 ? months later at my new address offering to extend for a fee, and I did so, and got the confirmation letter obviously to my new address.......

you might be able to do the redirection in person at the post office, they might want some proofs of old as well as new address though......I'm sure some people forget to do it til after they move and there must be a way of doing it as long as you have proofs....

Last time I did it they just needed ID and proof of the previous address.

Just bear in mind that the redirection service is in no way guaranteed, i mean they say it is but it is not.

I was a postman for 6 years, on a regular duty with a regular postman it is almost guaranteed but on days off, forget it.

Most are too lazy/dont care to redirect your mail and it is much easier to deliver it to its address than fart about redirecting it.

My bonus to being a postman is that i can use any address i pleased in almost any part of my town and they would deliver it to my address no questions asked, also no need for ID for picking up parcels etc.

Hi

You can setup a redirection at any post office. You will need the following ID:

Quote:
For each different last name, you must provide two forms of identification:
One current and valid proof of name from this list:
• Credit/debit card
• Bank/building society book
• Passport
• Driving licence – photocard
• EU member state identity card
• Birth certificate (under 16s only)

And

One current and valid proof of old address from this list (over 16s only):
Each item must be dated within the last six months and must match
the last name and the old address.
• Two different utility bills (NOT a mobile phone or a store/charge card
statement or bills printed from the internet)
• Original credit card statement
• Original mortgage statement
• Bank or building society statement or passbook
They do send a letter to the old address, but you can ask them not to include your new address on this and you do not have to reply to it.

They will also add you to the National Change Of Address database unless you ask them not to, this notifies banks, credit agencies, debt collectors and other interested parties of your new address, so its probably worth opting out of.

You can extend the redirection when your chosen period ends, up to a maximum of four years.
