Default Encryption security measures

So your a stealther and have 20+ user accounts on your windows PC or laptop..

You rifle through the user accounts often so you have a easy password for those logins...

If this pc/laptop got into the wrong hands it would be baaad...

Therefore my quest for encryption and my questions for you stealthers:

Im looking to encrypt my laptop but only on startup one password to unlock the whole thing, not the windows passwords for user account...those are easy to break...

Anyone use something like this? Or know a good tool for this?

THANKS!

You can set a Bios Password. I will add this, I have all my data saved on an external hard drive that I usually take care of very well. I use VMWare and all my login's and passwords and so forth are on my external drive which is encrypted via bitlocker.

Bios password won't do any good if they extract the hardrive, try encrypting the drive with TrueCrypt or BitLocker. Google is your friend.

The simplest solution I'd say is to just use Windows Bitlocker, and store your encryption key on a flash drive.

Windows won't boot/decrypt the drive unless you have that flash drive plugged in.

Just remember to backup your decryption key/file at multiple places if you do want to use Bitlocker. If you lose it or your flash drive fails, you can kiss all your data good bye

The Bitlocker is a good and simple thing to encrypt you hard drive. Also you can use additional software ( for example true crypt ) to encrypt files on your hard drive or you can use a hidden volume encrypted via true crypt. If you will use hidden volume you will be promoted to enter decryption pass when you start to use this volume. The most popular software for reliable encryption are TrueCrypt, PGP, AxCrypt, BestCrypt.
