Default forced to open seller account?

Hey. I recently attempted to purchase an item on ebay with a new ebay account (0 fb). As soon as I pressed "bid", I was asked to enter my credit card info...I entered it, and was immediately prompted to open a sellers account. I do not wish to have this ebay account be a seller account. I simply want to make purchases with it for now, but ebay seems to be forcing me (or at least attempting to force me) to have this account fully verified for buying AND selling.

This was my first time attempting to buy something with a totally new, unverified account, so I dont know if this is normal or not. I have no trouble adding a CC to it, if that will allow me to buy with it, but I didn't think that anything beyond that would be required. Can someone out there tell me where I messed up, and what exactly is required prior to being able to bid on items?

this is unusual... could it be that the seller requires paypal only customers?? i ran into something similar to this with a buy-it-now purchase.. no phone number verification required though..

I'm not sure if it was paypal only, but it was not a BIN item, and it also did not say "immediate payment required" like some paypal auctions.

I wasn't surprised, when they prompted me to add my CC details, but I was quite surprised when I was asked to get seller approved without any options otherwise. As it stands, I'm going to have the paypal account that I had planned to use with it fully verified with the deposits, and then link that pp with the ebay and see if that breaks me apart from the seller approval mandate. I didn't want to have to link the PP to it, but they don't seem to be giving me any choice.

Try opening another account and see what happens..

It could be a new way of verifying buyer info.. or a system glitch

That sounds like the seller made that a requirement to bid. Try bidding on a different item and see if it says the same thing.

I decided to just fully verify the PP account and then link it. I'll try using a non-linked ebay account next week lol. Always experimenting =)

Who knows. How long before eBay requires a SSN and credit check to buy a toner refill kit on their site.

Nobody knows that...LOL! A ss# and credit check to buy toner refill kit? I don't think you have to worry about that...

Ebay will not ask for SS# or do a credit check on you. PayPal will.
Ebay may ask you for something to confirm that you are who you say you are, but they do this with sellers not buyers. If you are only buyer, they will live you alone as long you pay for things you bid on.
