This will likely result in an "eCheck" with the money being debited from your bank.
Although this was not your intention, it's likely you won't be able to cancel it. If there is insufficient funds in your bank acct, it may "bounce" or if accepted, result in an overdraft.

Maybe give your bank a call and explain to them what happened and ask them if they are willing to waive the fee. Unfortunately PayPal can do little, if anything to reverse this once the ACH request is processed.

If you overdraw, then you'll get an overdraft fee. But you can call your bank and ask them for a courtesy if they'd waive the fee and you put in money to bring it back to positive balance.

How did you accidentally refund someone?

Let it bounce, loose the fee and learn from the mistake.

Before I learned how PayPal worked, I was under the assumption that any refund would use whatever money in your PayPal balance FIRST then dip into your bank for the remainder, if any. That's not so.

A few months ago I accidently initiated a refund (via eBay) for $1200 thinking I had enough in PayPal at the time to cover it (actually had about $1150 - $50 short) but PayPal dipped into my bank acct for the full $1200 leaving the $1150 in my PP balance. Kinda dumb. :(

All depends on your bank and your bank account policy. Do you have overdraft protection? Does your bank automatically let your account go negative by that much? If not - pp will not be able to get the fees, the bank account will be removed and your account likely will get limited.

Be careful and be more aware of what's going on

Same happens with me. BUT!
I have eBay in $ and PayPal in GBP

And after I try to refund $-order from eBay i do not have $ in my PayPal balance, only GPB. So eBay refunds it from linked bank account with the e-cheque.

This was a big surprise for me.
