Angry Citibank just effffed me!

So I have 4 checking account with Citibank, ranging from 6 months old to about 1 week old. Today 3 of the 4 were frozen and are being closed for fraud. Called Citibank and they said the names don't match. The only account left standing is the only one not attached to a paypal. So now I got about $600 dangling in the air while Citibank does an "investigation". Anyone else had these problems with Citibank? What are the chances I get to withdrawal my money?

I'm assuming these are personal accounts? How much volume were you processing through the account?

I always try to open biz bank accounts when possible. Citi is a bit of a pain in the ass. They required a "website" as proof of business, saying that an ebay business was not enough or not "acceptable" for them.

Agreed, open a business account (at another bank) and this won't happen. It's also best to open a business PayPal account if possible.

Regarding Citibank, I have updated the list of good vs bad bankings for eBay Stealth.

we have more than 10,000 unique banks in the USA. Only a handfull care about missmatched names. The simple solution it to not use the bad banks such as Citi and Capital one for stealth.

I was just getting started with these accounts. I had deposited less than 1k thru all 3 accounts and withdrawn maybe $200 or $300. Citibank says once their investigation is done they will send me a check for the money they are holding. I'll believe it when I see it.

But I continuously run around 10-12 stealths, wouldn't getting business accounts require getting an ein for each account?

eins are free. least of your concerns, make one a day for a month and have 30 ready to go. getting an ein shouldnt even be a concern.

You can only get one EIN per legal entity last I checked..

1 SSN = 1 EIN
1 LLC = 1 EIN

Open more LLCs but those aren't free.

Just a small update. 2 1/2 months and they are still "investigating". Been assured by multiple bank employees that eventually I will be sent a check. I will keep you guys updated.

My guess is they will make you wait a full 6 months due to any charge backs just in case.

It sounds like inactivity on a six month old account, mismatched names, plus withdrawing money triggered their security system into freezing your account. It's a good idea to sit on an account for a few months and actively use it. I always like to deposit checks to bank accounts that will be used for stealth and make purchases here and there. Once I feel like my account is established, I add it to paypal. I have three accounts with one bank and never withdraw into more than one account once every three days too. I also don't withdraw cash as soon as paypal deposits hit. I let it sit for a few days. The bank security systems are designed like paypal...withdrawing money not long after it hits your account will trigger the system if you aren't an established customer

To add, some grocery stores allow customers to make cashback transactions up to $200 when making a purchase. I usually withdraw cash this way.

It used to be possible to w/d to a bank that wasn't yet confirmed, but AFIK, that's no longer possible.

So easy you can give it try before confirm it you can withdraw easily, paypal just asking for confirming to add money from your bank account to your paypal account so if you don't need to add money better leave it unconfirmed!
