Default ets/y views/visits down by 50%

Hello
So I have noticed a sudden drop in views/visits/orders since like April 25th and it does not get better. I have many stores with different items so I can compare and this happened on all of them. This is organic traffic. Something happened and I am thinking of ways to get traffic up again. Anyone else noticed a sudden drop in views? I have also read on ets/y forum that this happened for other sellers as well.

Etsy is messing around with the best match algorithm again.

I recently did a run down of someone’s shop and had them re-do just about every tag and marketing photo because the new way the algorithm is reading you gotta be utilizing everything a specific way to the product.

Yeah I have noticed that its messing with algorithm/search and I guess my old tactics do not work that well anymore. Umm can algorithm "read" a photo as well? What is it looking for in a photo then?

They are punishing items with duplicate or similar looking photos. I notice more and more unoriginal listings get pushed back.

You mean duplicate or similar looking photos compared to other sellers?

Okay.. And what about tags/listing naming?

Yep.

Those are item specific so I can’t give many pointers there, but they need to be done in a better order than before as they aren’t reading them as a group like they once did. The listing itself needs a lot of this work too.

It's not your shops, there are so many sellers out there complaining about low views/sales, even shops with hundreds of sales!

Not entirely the truth. Etsy does this every year.

You either adapt or you die. Etsy has gained a lot of competitors for long time sellers in small markets recently and their views drop. They have let China reinfect the listings which lowers people down.

I googled it and it’s a lot of Jewelry or non-hot ticket item sellers complaining. They got more competition in their listings and aren’t updating them and expecting things to work as always.

That said I can go back to 2012,2013,2014,2015,2016,2017 and find the same whining. If someone has that same ghastly purple beaded choker necklace for $20 cheaper that’s the seller most buyers are going with. Lower your price, change your tags or stop complaining about commerce.

Want to add a counter point.

I am probably doing the best I have ever done on etsy.
But it came from a lot of trial and error.

Couple tips that have helped me in lean times:
1.Keep listing new items.
2.Remove items that do not sell
3.Dont get lazy when sales are high, keep working hard
4.Modify/Compare tags periodically
5.Ship as fast as you can. Have no evidence about this metric, but it probably helps.

Thats about it.
Getting my plans ready for the summer slump and plans for christmas.

This is also the slowest part of the year for online sales.. April/May/June

All the marketplaces are making changes now before the holiday seasons kicks into gear. As others have said, adapt to the changes or die.

Still, it depends on the product. There are some products that sell well regardless of the season.

seasonal sales slumps are nothing more than folklore. it just means you aren't selling the right product.

I agree. I do see a slight downturn after Christmas, but of course I do, the holidays blast off to orbit so anything would seem downturned.

Mine are down 75%, I just assumed tax time but worse in May, from $2000 a month to $1000 in April to like $75 this month.

I have to agree with Gladiator, the new photos get a lot more looks than the old ones.

A few minor changes can make the world of difference if you are in a competitive market.
