Got This Tax Msg today! (Tax Payer Status)

I received this message today. I've only received 8k in payments and have not received the IRS threshold. If I stop selling for the rest of 2018, can I go back to selling next year? I know they will limit me if I don't link my SSN, which I actually plan on doing and just keep selling on other stealth accounts. Let me know.

Yes this seems to be a new way they are issuing tax IDs and the thresholds seem to be a little different / inconsistent vs how they used to be with my accounts in the past.

I too am wondering if this is simply a new way of them notifying you about tax id and all else will remain the same or if they are implementing a change in thresholds and / or will no longer reset Tax ID accounts that have a "soft" tax limitation when the next calendar year rolls around.

Well I got the same but I have EIN on file, so really don't know what is going on. I guess I will have to call them.

I ran into the exact same issue - does anyone know if this is PayPal's way of pushing for TIN users to change to a business account? It seems like the only options for a personal account are personal ID numbers (SSN or ITIN)

I know have gotten this notice on 90% of my accounts... Some sold as low as only 4k for year.

It triggered for me when I went over around $2,000 in one month because they predict your going to reach 20,000 in the year.

So do you guys know the next step from the notice? Is there a certain amount of time before features are cut off? I have a TIN already entered, but still got this same tax message... does anyone know if switching from a personal account to a business account will fix the problem?

since this seems to be the first year they are doing this, I don't think anybody can really tell you for sure if accounts that have reached their tax ID threshold will reset next year or if the account will stay limited.

I can tell you I have accounts with this notice that I kept selling on until I got a soft limitation where I could no longer receive payments but could still w/d. We will see if I can continue to sell on them next year!

For sure, I stopped receiving goods & services and only do family/friends for now.

I got the same notice... I called Paypl and they said if I didnt send them the docs they would limit my account

You will need to provide them in that case or move to a new account

I think SSN is another way to identify a person,sooner they get it,better it is for Paypal.
Among EU countries,if you have accepted $600 or $800 since inception,you have to provide IDs like driver license,identity card etc.

I read somewhere a person with EIN or ITIN argued with PAYPAL when it asked for SSN,PAYPAL wants SSN ,saying behind every ITIN or EIN,there should be a real person and it wants the SS number.

Paypal told me they are moving to require SSN/Taxpayer ID on all accounts. They're starting with new accounts and higher transaction accounts, but eventually, they will require it on all. The last ones will be those that receive little to no payments (accounts only used for sending money). They don't want to do too much at once because they lose customers at each stage. Kind of like boiling a frog, they want to do this with the public slowly so there isn't enough frustration at once to result in public outcry.

The only thing you can do is get business license and EIN or buy an account that comes with SSN, etc.

I have been worried about getting my money out in time. I have a large transaction with the typical hold on it until the customer receives. I am hoping, in a couple days, I'll be able to send it directly to my bank account without a SSN. If I have to provide SSN, I will be really screwed. I am also hoping, at worst, they will just tell me I can't receive any payments in the future, but withdrawing for previous sales will still be okay. I have been worrying about this and recent changes all weekend trying to figure out what to do.

But they have not asked you for SS yet and your large payment will clear soon,then you will find out.
