hi, guys I am selling virtuals and copyrights item. i got a chargeback today. paypal said a payment made 2 weeks ago was reversed by buyer because it was not authorized.

they said i need to supply some information so that their bank can make a decision.

what should i do now? loose the 50 bucks? anymore risks apart from that? why some people say chargebacks is a nightmare.

and what is the difference between a chargeback and a paypal unauthorized payment hold, it looks the same to me. The worse case is we loose the item and the money?

and this guy who give me this charge back actually thanked me via email ,and left me positive feedback. should i send him email to see what is wrong?

The Best way to communicate is a simple phone call, people don't seem to be as brave when you are calling them direct.

If this were me (YMMV):

1. I would send an email to the buyer inquiring about the reason for the issue
2. Supply as much information as I reasonably could (information about the Vgood, maybe)
3. Figure out a way to put a license key on the goods if possible and ability to remote-kill license (future sales)
4. Menatally set it in my head that these funds are gone (hope for the best) and learn from this

A hold is when they make funds unavailable to you but do not return them to the payor yet. A chargeback is similar, except it is initiated by the payor's bank or credit card issuer.

It is possible here that somebody used another person's card/acct, the somebody thanked you, and the cardholder still knows nothing and saw the payment on their statement thus wants it removed.

If PP auth'd the charge and it turns out to be fraud, you may still be protected (if you want to hassle with it). Me, I'd take initial steps and hope it works out easy. Beyond that, I'd say screw it and move on.

Again, YMMV.

thanks guys.

but i have concerns telling paypal that i sell these virtuals to them, and what proof do i have? emails that I sent out the virtuals? I think buyers are taking advantage of this!

but i can't say i didn't post the item and just refund? what if i don't do anything? will these kinds of chargeback affect credit rating of my paypal account like the other open cases. i think if i have 3 open cases my account is about to get limited.

Contact the buyer directly and make sure they didn't forget they bought something. I had one buyer that did a chargeback a month later, and she claimed she forgot she purchased my item. She quickly canceled the chargeback and I got the money back. I would do this first.
