Default Why do some Paypal transfers have a WEB ID field?

I've noticed that some Paypal transfers to my bank account have a WEB ID in the description while others do not. Why is that? What does it mean?

Where are you seeing this? On PayPal's side, or your bank account end?

It's probably some sort of reference ID#

On the bank's end. I notice that some transfers have a really short description with just a Paypal ID and others have a long description with a WEB ID and a Paypal ID. The transfers are all done the same way. I'm just wondering why the different description formats.

It could be your bank adding that field to some of the transactions.

I checked my Wells Fargo, and incoming transfers from PP look like this:
**PAYPAL TRANSFER 181XXX 10040XXXXXXXX PAYPAL NAME

My Chase & BofA accounts also have similar formats.

Not all of the data from PayPal may be displayed on the bank's end. The most relevent bits are the date, reference #, paypal account name, and transaction amount.

I know what you're talking about. Some of my transfers show up in my bank account saying something like "TRANSFER CO : 2323885229338" instead of "TRANSFER CO : PAYPAL".

No idea what it is but I'm glad I'm not the only one. I thought maybe one of my banks was investigating my transfers or something.

In my case it's the same bank and Paypal account. Sometimes it says PPD ID and other times it says WEB ID. I can't figure out why it's one or the other.

I have found out more though. I thought PPD stood for PayPal. it doesn't. PPD and WEB are ACH transfer codes. From what I can tell, the difference is that PPD transfers are preauthorized in writing. WEB transfers are authorized over the web. I still don't understand why one code is used over the other. Since all these transfers are initiated in the same way. Shouldn't the code be the same every time?

This website talks about what the ACH codes mean.
