Default Confirm Taxpayer Status (Mass residents $600 limit instead of $20K...?)

I got a "confirm your taxpayer status" email and in there it says that Mass residents have a $600 limit, and further down it says that my account is limited, etc. though not only is there not a limitation on it when I log in, there isn't even a notice of this sent to my PP account in "messages" either.

The account is seldom used, and definitely not over any limits. Is that a common spoof email, or was it sent because there really is a lower limit for Mass. residents? (The account was actually a Mass. address, which makes me think the email was not a spoof).

As of right now there isn't any limitations on it, I just used it and I also changed the state and address on the card, address, and all related eb*y and pp stuff, all to a different state. From past experiences, is it possible that PP email was a spoof, or if it wasn't, is it possible changing the state prevents me from any issues since no limitations took effect yet?

Or am I better off calling them and getting ahead to make sure they update my address on file so they can see I'm not a Mass. resident?

If anyone had experience with this, I'd be grateful for your input. Thanks.

Oh, that's a common spoof email.

I never click on any link in the email and I always check inside paypal first. If there's nothing there, I ignore everything and mark the message as spam.

Don't even bother calling paypal.

Eh, this has been a state law since 2017 so it's not a spoof email.

OP, same thing happened to me but I was able to sell on the account right up to $20k this year. I don't know what the implications are. I think MA and VT setup their $600 laws but they haven't yet forced PP to comply with their laws. So you get a notification telling you about the $600 reporting limit but nothing is done to your account if you don't comply at that point. It's strange.

Either way it's not a spoof. Ignore if you want but it's a real PP email.

I got the same thing on my MA paypal, added EIN and was IMMEDIATELY asked to prove address, etc. So methinks you are toast.

phaz0rz is absolutely right.
Heard from several others who have encountered the same situation with accounts addressed in those 2 states. I stopped creating stealth accounts in those states as a result.

that is not a spoof email. That is from Paypal and you either need to provide the Tax ID or SSN or the account will be limited. 600 dollars applied to MA and VT since 2017
