Amazon reports to California state all 1099ks out there.I have a real account on my name registered with California random address. Cali tax department found my real address and sent a letter to file a tax return with Cali state. I called them and told that I wasn't a Cali resident and they told me they want a copy of my tax return and aslo Amazon to redo 1099k (it's from 2016 by the way). Is it a good idea sending them tax return and asking Amazon to redo 1099k ? I fear it my trigger docs
Thanks

I'm trying to think outside the box here and I hope a more experienced expert could also pitch in.
If I were in your shoes, I'd make this less complicated and just pay the taxes as they requested. In the meanwhile I'd update my amazon profile for the next year so it's corrected.
It seems they don't report to California the 1099 info of all sellers, only because you used a California address so it makes you a resident of California... they recently shared with CA name/address of all sellers that have items in FBA warehouses in CA.

yes you right they report only those who used CA address. looks like for the future it's safer to register with sates with no state income tax
