Activity: 0% Longevity: 37% | | Do you think my niche will cease to exist?
I mainly sell in the category of Smartphone accessories (cables, cases...etc). Do you think this niche will cease to exist in the next 10 years or so?
At the moment eBay is my main source of income, I was thinking about this yesterday and read some articles about how smartphones themselves will cease to exist in the future
I don't think smartphones will disappear anytime soon and I even made an analoge with cars. The first car was made sometime in the 18th century. Now cars have evolved a whole lot since then, but the principle stayed the same. I think the same will apply to smartphones. Also, the era of these little magic devices is comparatively new as these became mainstream in the early 2010.
Do you think smartphones will be made in a way that no cases, screen protectors...etc will be needed for them?
If that is the case, I think someone will need to find a new niche |
The complete step-by-step guide to get back to selling today!

I doubt it.
In your category, you have the potential to make enough money to put back and invest into other things. And that's what I'd be looking into, if I were worried like you are. Well, that's what I'd be looking into, regardless.

That's exactly what I am going to look into. The Apparel category is the one that is to stick for the next century and beyond. I will be researching and investing into that for sure |

And I refuse to rent my items out to people while they see if they like them, or if they fit.
Buy 2 and return the one that doesn't fit. Phuck that!

One of the great things about passive income, regarding the IRS, is that you don't owe SE tax on it. So, that's 15.2% of your profits that you get to keep!

I don't like putting all my eggs in one basket that may go extinct in the future. I see some sellers selling exclusively in the apparel category and some of them have a feedback score of something like 10k/month.
Sure, selling that is not as convenient as selling phone accessories, but I guess clothing has some security behind it.

If that is the case, I think someone will need to find a new niche | Considering the technology and how market is expanding every single day, every month, every year and because people are getting access to such technology everyday, your niche isn't dead, and it never will be.

It would be worth looking into who the major suppliers are for protective gear. Not in the best interest of phone manufactures to make their phones less susceptible to damage if they make lots of $$$ on replacements and damage prevention gear.
Cables tho... omfg. USB 2.0 mini??? HDMI "active"? "Gold plated"?? Give me a f***ing break. Proprietary cables are a gold mine.
Can't stop wireless chargers tho if that's what the people want. So you got cables? Here, buy our wireless charger next.

Foldable phones means just more accessories, and it's just better for us, sellers. Any innovation has accessories.

Haha, love it hate it, whichever side you're on. Give people something they need then control how convenient it is to them and you can add up the zero's!

I personally think the category will be around for a good number of years, but the items in it are going to change more and more.
What makes a great "niche" is the profit margins and also the types of people you end up selling to. I've always been frustrated by the customers when I sold electronics or related items, which is why I moved away from that once I had the opportunity.
