EIN instead of an SSI

I know everyone is just attaching bank accounts to PayPal and depositing their money that way. I have to wonder how long this will work though.

Everything I have read says you can use an EIN in place of a social. I don't have free accounts to burn for this but has anyone tried it successfully?
