Default Has anyone here ever lied to distrubtors / wholesalers?

Ive found it exceedingly difficult dealing with dist / wholesalers who only sale to "brick and mortar" stores.

I've made some white lies which are not completely wrong saying I sell at different markets, trade shows, conventions, etc and am in the works for a "mall booth" but these people are so stubborn.

For example, one distributor refused $20,000 saying he would only sell if I had a store.

Has anyone lied to distributors giving a business address to get pass the applications process and then just ordering the items to their residential address?

Do it ... it's not as if they can sue you, I mean what damage have you caused them. It's no different than suppliers refusing to sell to scalpers that buy and flip limited edition collectible items for a profit. They will simply stop doing business with you, surely ?

^precisely.

Just need to formulate a plausible address and story. I remember on one occassion a few years ago a distributor had a "rep" in my city who wanted to meet me in person at my store lol.

Im just sick of playing games with these people and just say "Yup, I own a store. This is the address". The only issues I see if when I order product to my residential address they may question this. "Why are you shipping to this residential address blah blah".

Why do some suppliers have a problem selling to online sellers?

Suppose you got your hands on the products you're looking for and sold them online, could the supplier do anything about it? Like Veroing your listings...etc?

Who knows really. I only target listings with multiple sellers already to limit this risk. I already buy from distributors who told me I cant sell on amazon, although I still do lol

Good question, I guess there is a contractual element, and they agree to supply you based on the info you give and not otherwise, then in theory that is actionable but doubt most places would sue anyway....

If they allow every john,Mary,Joe who work from home and sell their products cheap,it will wipe out their retailers network, these are the ones who present them nicely, sell at a healthy markup and keep them in business.
but then 99 % of my suppliers never ask, they just assume I have a shop.aka brick and mortar shop

Online sellers tend to screw up MAP pricing, race to the bottom, and destroy other businesses that sell offline. Coming from a standpoint where I was involved with distribution for a while, I will openly admit some of the WORST sellers to sell to are online sellers. They ruin prices, break rules, etc. It makes it exceedingly difficult for other companies to do business.

I don't agree that online sellers should be cut off as a whole, but I DO understand why they do it. I currently know some companies that absolutely refuse to sell to Amazon sellers, yet there's like 20+ sellers on the listing selling as we speak. It's ridiculous on both ends.
