For a country that likes to call itself the "land of the free" Americans don't seem to have much privacy!

No doubt... The cucks among us have given it all up for pseudo-security and convenience.

(and then of course, there are the great lengths our alphabet agencies go to that we have no idea about )

We haven't had a shred of freedom since the 1930's but in all fairness the UK is way worse. You guys have to have licenses for watching broadcast TV.

I 2nd aspkins comment. Aside from old people who keep all their crypto in exchanges as "investments" I don't see how this could possibly be enforced.

It is like the question they ask on the tax return form-do you have a foreign bank account or do you control a trust fund which does?
Many who come clean were forgiven by paying a hefty fine.

We have worse privacy because of the TV license? I'm not sure I follow?

Plus the license is optional, contrary to popular belief. If you don't use the BBC channels then you simply notify them and they won't charge you. Its only a problem if they catch you using it without a license. It's an outdated and ridiculous system. The reason the BBC requires a license (its like a couple of quid a month) is because it doesn't have any advertising from third parties. Its mostly just used by old folk who don't understand streaming or digital TV.

I remember it was not so many years ago when in the UK we didn't have picture id. Not even the drivers license had a photo.

In my mind, I like to think of 'freedom' as a spectrum. Both ends are untenable.

There was a time one can borrow a friend's insurance card and go see a doctor.
Now they ask for picture ID so they can compare .
