Exclamation How is your eBay business these days ?

I am just curious. Those of you who used to sell on eBay during 2010 - 2016. Would you say that your business is significantly down or up in 2018 compare to previous years? As for my own experience, I went from selling 80-120 units consistently between 2012 - 2015 to pretty much just 2-3 units a day in 2018. Views have been dramatically down, these days I can't even get 5 views a day, compared to previous years, I used to get about 100-150 views per day per product.

Down... people would buy anything, even used chewing gum in the beginning... now they've gotten more selective.

Find something else to sell is my suggestion if you have lost 99% of your sales.

Unfortunately, nowadays, people can return new chewing gum after they've used it, for a full return. :(

Well, I think the reason people's sales are down is because their product has reached it's end of life.

More competition, lower prices, etc.

So a couple of ways to counter that is creating more eBay Stealth accounts, diversifying the sales by bringing in new products to your inventory that'd sell well..

I personally dont think that's the case. I sell in category where products don't necessary have a shelf life. While I appreciate your response Saji, I haven't really seen anyone confirm or deny if what I am saying is true. I remember yankee used to boast a lot about how well he was selling on eBay but judging from his recent reply it doesn't seem too promising. I feel like telling someone to find another product is a bit ignorant. It's akin to telling someone looking for gold to look where there isnt none left.

Business is about adapting. If your sales have dropped that drastically and you've done nothing about it, that's on you. There's something wrong. Outdated products, your prices, your keywords, or something else. No one here can tell you what the issue is. But to answer your question, eBay sales in general have dropped significantly from years ago. Amazon has taken so much of the market. People feel like when they're buying on amazon they're buying from a "company" rather than "someone selling stuff out of their garage". Plus with Amazon Prime and how quickly they can deliver products. Now a lot of the selling apps are catching on and becoming more popular. Etsy is another one that is booming. But eBay is still king. There is tons of money to be made on eBay. If your not making sales on eBay, its likely your product is the problem.

My sales are doing pretty good right now.

I spend a lot of time researching products and what was selling in previous years won't necessarily sell right now, no matter how niche.

I had a hot product back in 2015 and then I couldn't move it at all in 2016 and 2017, no matter how much I lowered the price. I put the product in storage and now it's selling like crazy. Go figure...

This sounds ignorant. You stated you lost 99% of your sales. Dude, that is either you or your items and nothing more.

Ebay is great for me. Always has been. Amazon on the other hand is next to worthless. It all depends on what is being sold.

Why do you sound hostile? Obviously losing 99% of your sales has something to do with the seller too but not everything. I guarantee that you lost a lot of traffic and your sales aren’t the same today as they were just few years ago. Unless you were drop shipping all these years. I monitor my competitors and I can see they too aren’t selling as well as they used to. There is no denying eBay is saturated. While eBay did gain traffic to their site it’s. It enough to facilities the many sellers that have joined this site since than. Even Chinese aren’t generating the same revenue on eBay as they used to just few years ago.

You are right I should have invested more time into branding. I see my competition has survived but they aren’t doing the same numbers they were just a few years ago. I noticed they lowered their prices so that could also be one of the reasons why they are still doing okay but not great. My products aren’t outdated, in fact we both purchase products from the same factory l. The only difference is their listings are a lot more appealing. They standout because they age strong brand presence so that gives them some advantage.

And like previously said by another poster. Amazon has taken away a singnificant chunk of their sales. Most people prefer to shop on amazon rather than eBay because products tend to be better quality and because of their libaral return policy. Still even when Amazon used to dominate 2-3 years ago, eBay was still doing okay. I just think eBay became more saturated since than even though they did gain more traffic.

eBay was never a hype. But overtime eBay has Beene overrun by Bieber sellers who du ally destroyed eBay’s reputation, they are doing exactly the same on Amazon now.

I have already exceeded 2017 sales in 2018 by the end of January.
My ONLY ISSUE to date is keeping inventory in stock and this is my slow period. I expect to sell more than I did in 2013 with MORE profit and that was my best year.
You and/or your items are the problem. That is what all of us keep telling you. If YOU dont adapt, you will die like K-Mart

2 things...

1. eBay isn't over-saturated at all for me.
2. Sounds like you should just give up and quit. You don't have what it takes to survive in this business.

Actually, make that 3 things...

3. Quit paying so much attention to your competitors and worry about YOU!

What is going on this weekend? My sales are being cut in half suddenly on every account I run...and I have been adding a bunch more stuff over the last few days.

Are some shoppers having post-tax blues?

Wow! Even by my standards some of these answers are harsh!

Still, if your sales are down that much you need new product and a new approach.

Ecommerce is a business that's like a shark - if it stops swimming it dies.
