Default Why don't mid sized eBay companies not worry about being banned?

I've seen loads of YouTube channels of people who sell on eBay for a living doing $200k-$1mil/year and they appear to just have just one 100% legit account and don't seem to have any worries about ever getting banned. Is this realistic or do they secretly have a bunch of stealth accounts they don't talk about? How do they manage this, it seems risky to me?

If it's possible sell $1mil/year on a single eBay account with a properly registered LLC, EIN,etc. why do some people have like 20 stealth accounts? Are those just for people selling counterfeit/extremely high risk items or...?

PS: Talking about USA only here.

Very risky to rely on only 1 legit account regardless of what is being sold. Some ppl have longlasting success with legit items but many still have various issues

It's possible to have a single legit account doing really well if you follow ALL the rules, use common sense and your initiative. As a business you need to also accept a loss if things go sour. If you expect ebay to always help you out and for them to take a hit i.e. seller protection payouts etc too many times, that's when trust & safety drop the line that they feel they can't provide you with the service you need so it's in our mutual interest if we part ways. Find another venue to sell on.

I would believe that a very small percentage of eBay users know about stealth in the first place. Why would a company's account get banned when all they sell is legit stuff and they never go below standard?

eBay is not waging a suspension war on its users as you might think.

Can say having legit Ebay I think reps go easier on you if you're established. I've twisted grey areas in policies and get warnings to 'correct' the issue instead of listings getting pulled.. but not always, sometimes they've pulled a few to show they mean business.

Came here cause I was worried I might get suspended over some of my business practices, but compared to Amazon it's nothing.. Ebay actually wants you there.

Do recommend multiple accounts regardless of situation. Increases your exposure and blankets more of the market.

Contrary to how it may seem, because of this and other forums, a very small percentage of sellers get kicked off ebay. Especially sellers who play by the rules.

Of course the sh1tty scammy people are gonna get kicked off, time and time again.

But here, you only hear the bad stories... so the impression is a little skewed.

there are many different types of sellers on EBAY,many are so called weekend warriors, they go to garage sale, estate auction, storage auction etc and list what they find.
But there are some legit brick and mortar companies which sell on Ebay,to offset store expenses.
But the easy money on EBay or internet is history, most of us sell for narrower margins .
Those who claim they sell $ millions of goods, are often the ones who eventually go under, like the famous couple in CA who sell CD,DVD,VHS auction style.
or sterling silver jewelry with starting bid of 99 cents and end up with final bid of 99 cents.
Most sellers work alone or have a small staff, they dont have a good inventory system, they often buy remainders/rejects,returns and fail to test them properly or not knowing enough to test them well,Ebay makes them pick up return postage and they lose money.
if their sales is over 1 million or in 6 figures, they are selling electronics, with small markup and relying on dropshippers, just because they sell $million worth of goods,do not mean they are profitable, they may just be barely profitable .
The easy money is gone,I would say it exits 15 years ago for Ebay sellers.

I agree, electronics isn't as profitable as before, due to the sheer competition out there.

But there are so many other categories people turn a blind eye to, which is extremely profitable.

So no, easy money hasn't gone anywhere, you just have to work smarter.

you must be one of those sellers who have a niche ,know what people want and source these goods /services cheap.
back in the old days, everyone wants a laptop, camera, scanner, printer and you can make a lot of money selling them

Just out of curiosity, do you source the items you sell from China?

90% local / Canada. 10% China.

Local suppliers import from China, UK, Korea, India.

Mid size or small size or large size retail companies know how to run a retail business, they have merchandise on hand,if not ,they can order from supplier, they have Fed Exp or UPS come daily if needed ,they have merchant account to accept credit card which they prefer thanr Paypal, since the rate is lower,2.9% is high,so is 30 cents transaction fee.
if there is chargeback, their merchant account provider will do a better job communicating with the other party and do a better job fighting for them THAN paypal.
But then there is no seller protection .
Their merchandise is what you called 'MIB' or mint in box, straight from the manufacturer,if defective, they can return it .unlikes many individual sellers who find their merchandise in basement, dumpster, lockers, garage sale.
and they do know what they sell.and they stand behind what they sell,if it is defective they would return to the maker and get full credit/refund.
Some may also have professional photographer, and technicians .
do they make more ?I doubt it,Ebay is a fleamarket, one cannot expect to ask listed or Manufacturer suggested retail price, and there is this Ebay FVF on both item and shipping, but instead of just selling to locals,Ebay gives them a chance to sell worldwide, sometimes they are approached to be a wholesaler to some overseas retailers.

This is a constant battle. Once your main source of income was shutdown, you will know why you always need a backup plan. It could be varies reason and market is very unpredictable. You could get banned for any silly reasons and you are done. Depending how you run your business.

Money's good in self-manufacturing.

Reselling MIB, bulk from supplier.

Retail arbitrage, flipping knowledge and sale/closeout deals.

Money could be really good in vintage/antique/collectors categories if you know how to flip. Higher loss risk, high gain. Really have to know your stuff.

My first account lasted 5 years before it got hit. I was a legit business. Those people either do know and do have multiple accounts and just aren't telling people or they haven't been hit yet.

Most don't worry because they think they'll only get banned if they're naughty. Why not have multiple accounts? If I sell the same products on 5 accounts=I sell 5x more.
