Default vmware player does not work

I'm actually wondering why the two most important questions about vmware player have not been addressed as a sticky.. here they are and I am having trouble with them from a newbie perspective:

I selected "I want to create an OS later" since i'm sure nobody here will be clicking the first two options which requires you to have the ISO or the disc bootable, including myself. Just for kicks, I selected XP Pro 64 bit edition.

Then I try to run it and it says "No OS Found."

Question 1: Now what? Lol. We have to buy an OS or something?

Question 2: Certainly no one here wants their VM being connected to their native internet connection for obvious reasons. Meaning one would connect to their VPN not in the vm, but on their native computer first, PRIOR to opening up the vm. Am I correct? So lets say the VPN kill switch does not work for some super unfortunate reason, then the native IP will be exposed as the VM will automatially revert to connecting to that. How to we PREVENT that from happening? Its like a VMware Killswitch to the VPN killswitch malfucntioning, if you will.

Hi
I suggest you take some time to watch some videos on youtube about how to install OS in Vmware. It will be the fastest help you could get about this topic.
Same for the second question which will require you to better understand the network layers.

You certainly do need to have the ISO for whatever OS you're trying to install.

When you're making the VM you tell it to use a virtual drive, and select your OS ISO as the virtual disk you want it to read.

1. Download an ISO image online. It is not illegal. Just make sure it has not been modded by checking that the hash compares to MS's and you'd be fine.

2. You can have your VMs use any IP solution - what matters is your use case and that you can configure it to do so. I have some of our VMs connected directly to a router with multiple static IPs, while others use IPs from a 4g wireless router with a mobile sim.
If you're going to run a large number of accounts then I'd suggest you consider moving towards Linux based Virtual environments. VMware pales in comparison and (in my opinion) is hopelessly unstable.

As MasterNaster says above, you'd need to know what you're doing. Use YouTube but if you wat structured information, head to Udemy instead.
