Do eBay actually take the micro deposits out of your account?

Hi everyone,

Do eBay actually take the micro deposits out of your account? I’m using a Santander bank account not savings account. Real name and date of birth address different.

Another account I used Lloyds bank not savings account deposits added 9/06/22 14/06/22 no deposits were taken out this account got suspended today.

They do take micro deposits out via MP system - for your savings account, the deposits were not taken....possibly your account was set to direct deposit ONLY with no chance of withdrawal

Yeah I just looked at my bank and eBay were on the direct debits so maybe it just takes a while until they take the deposits out? Unfortunately I ended up losing that account.

That delay may have caused MP to suspend your account - or was it on the eb side, the suspension only?

I personally think the suspension was down to address not being a verified address and listing a high risk item first.

On my other account they have set direct debits on my Santander current account but I’m not sure if they actually take deposits out or not?

I think not able to get microdeps has nothing to do with the suspension. I added lots of banks that do not support DD and it was all fine. I also added one bank that was MM, and when requests to take microdeposits came, I rejected them. Also no problems.

They will do if they can - but not always. A lot of the time it comes down to the bank rejecting the DD as far as I can tell but also doesnt seem to have a direct effect on accounts

Thanks for your replies really appreciate it. I understand they verify you from the moment you create a sellers account. If I use real address which is not my own address how can eBay verify you?

If banks are rejecting DD's how do ebay plan on recovering refunds and any monies owed?

I can't see them saying 'the DD was rejected, that's fine'.

Am I missing something?

Most of my accounts just got a request to add a cc for covering selling fees.

I don’t understand that they say after 3 days they will take the deposits out maybe 5 days then your be verified but all I see on my Santander bank is direct debit is set up but no deposits taken out.

And how can they verify you from when create a sellers account if you give a real address which is not yours? I understand if it’s not a valid address but if it’s real and you don’t live their how can they verify you?

It looks like eBay verify you in 2 different ways but both ways

1 is your identity and 2 is your bank details.

If they can’t verify my identity using an address I don’t live at but is a real verified address then stealth is officially dead IMO

But going back to what you said Muzzie potentially I could create an account in my brothers name using his address date of birth so identity will be confirmed and then use my own bank account so if eBay take deposits out of my account I can just cancel the DD so they won’t see the name if that works then stealth is not dead

I did a test on my Lloyds bank yesterday I sent 1p to my bank of Scotland bank but used my brothers name and the penny still went through and on my Lloyds bank it says 1p paid to my brothers name but is my bank account.

I don’t want to have to do this tho so I’m hoping any real address can be used as long as it wasn’t suspended before

Unlikely they'd even allow the account to operate if you couldn't register for MP wouldn't you say?

It has been fine for us. All bank accounts attached to our eBay account are strictly savings (without DD) and they don't seem to care. Everything's been fine for ages with no deposit reversed.



I could be wrong but my guess is they probably assume they know where to find you if you've passed their 'other checks'

I can’t seem to pass an account with my real name and verified address which isn’t mine. But it just shows that eBay have been trying to scare us all but clever people on this forum have figured it out.

Looks like we can create real accounts in family member/friend we know which will be instantly verified and just use our own bank.

Are you adding a credit card like Muzzie suggested because your experience doesn't seem to mirror normal ebay policy which says a payment method MUST be on file and the experiences expressed here and on their own forums.
Consider yourself lucky because there's absolutely no way they'll be applying the 'we know where you live' angle.

Is it important to list an item and add your bank details straight away? 2 times I have listed my items up on 2 different accounts without adding bank details and both accounts have been suspended after 30 minutes.

If it's happening within 30 minutes it's got nothing to do with you not immediately adding a bank account because they'll simply withhold any payouts until you do if, say, you make a quick sale.

Perfect I will give it a try and it’s okay to list up straight away or wait 7 days etc also is it a must to list with savers account registered when listing up. 2 of mine have gone down without listing with bank account.
