Okay, so now the buyer has returned the item and the weight differs by 132g (The Phone should weigh 140g). I'll try to appeal the case.

In the UK you keep the receipt which shows the tracking number, weight and the date of postage. That receipt counts as proof of posting. Also, the buyer still has my packaging and the sticker on it should show the same weight.
The weight of the returned package is printed on the label and the buyer himself should have kept a receipt indicating same weight.
Original weight is 487 grams and the weight of the returned package is now 335g. (miscalculated at first, the difference is even bigger -- 152 grams or 5.3 ounces to you Americans).

The weight of package will not help at all.
Buyer still can place for example a few rocks there and that's all.
Some weight there will be and paypal don't care, they just refund once tracking number says it's completed...

Called PayPal and they told me that there was some kind of mistake. The refund should not have happened, because they ask for proof that the box was empty (don't know what that means).
Anyway, I was told to wait for his manager to contact me regarding the case.

"We’ve completed our review and decided that the buyer is entitled to a
refund for this payment. To receive this refund, the buyer must return the
item in the same condition it was received and provide us with postage
information that confirms delivery to you. Once we can confirm the item was
returned to you, we’ll issue the buyer a refund from your PayPal account."
"I have reviewed the claim and can see that the buyer originally claimed that they received an empty box. You selected the option to refund them upon return of the item. As this was your decision, we did not request any additional evidence from the buyer. The item has now been returned as requested in the condition reported by the buyer, meaning the current case decision stands and no further action will be taken.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Yours sincerely,
Paul
Protection Services Department"
Are they contradicting themselves? What can I do? File a police report, trading standards, small claims?

They will use nonsense to get themselves out of this. Call them, speak to a manager. Explain weight difference. Explain what buyer did.
Worst comes to worst, ask them to put their decision in writing so you can escalate this matter to the authorities.
BTW, is this a stealth account or your real details?

Meaning you basically told Paypal you want the "empty" box back and thats what the buyer did. Insert foot in mouth, only recourse is police and they wont do anything. So pretty much kicking a dead horse.... |

| Umm, I thought he needs to return the item in same condition as I sent. So how can it be same condition.
**** paypal, this is hysterical.

You need a police report as I said at the start of this thread....
You should have disputed the accusation. When agreeing to refund you basically agreed at the box was empty.
You need to get a block on that phone ASAP

**** paypal, this is hysterical. | Well he did, he returned a empty box. Its comical, but look how paypal sees it. You said return it, buyer claimed empty box. So he sent you a empty box. Ever since Paypal shifted ways, a lot of cases are losing.

Report the phone as stolen? so he cannot use it, hopefully you still have record of the IMEI number?

I hate to be the one to say this, but its a lost cause... It is your word against his... Additionally this was not tackled properly, you never denied sending him an empty box.
Consider this an expensive lesson. Anything more would just be time and money...

Either this guy is bull****ting us or he is beyond dumb.
Who the hell issues a refund for a $600 dollar phone in exchange for a return? The buyer already said they got an empty box - do you honestly think that he's going to ship the iPhone back?
Find something else to do buddy. Sounds like eBay selling is not for you.

Find something else to do buddy. Sounds like eBay selling is not for you. | he is an occasional seller and unexperimented. Paypal do everything they can for a new seller feel proctected and especially occasional/new seller. Sure he made a mistake, but he is also learning, and you are lucky if nothing like that has happend to you in the past. On this forum, many people have lost much more money than this to learn what they now know and share.

I don't know why there are posts telling the OP to give up - that's not the spirit of selling. Yes, some things you let go, other's you don't.
OP - the account is all real details. Pursue the matter with PayPal / eBay - Contact them via social media as they tend to be more likely to do something about it.
If they don't, and you really want to take this buyer down, you have option to take them to a small claims court. Of course it may prove costly, but I certainly would go the extra smile to take the smirk of a scammers face.
