Default Encrypted email... any value?

I've been a user of an encrypted email service for several years now for my personal use. Protonmail based in Switzerland.

Any value using this for stealth? You can disable images, etc.

The bright side is you are not giving data to MSFT and google.

Unfortunately, the inbox is encrypted so no 3rd party client will work. It does have an android and ios app now, though. But you data is safe as hell.

Thoughts?

I don't really see much advantage over gmail with RE to stealth to be honest.

Sounds great if I was communicating with 3rd World Leaders trying to sell them some Plutonium.....for Stealth, Gmail is just fine.

Well, at what point do these mega-corporations start sharing data? This has always been my fear. The more and more privacy gets eroded, the easier it is to stomach.

All Ebay or Amazon would need is a list of IPs people login to their email with and you can kiss most of your accounts goodbye.

Google are just not going to start sharing all their data with eBay or PayPal

Just not going to happen

Not all, but an IP address? It's not too big a leap.

We say that today, but just imagine a scenario where the "brand" lobby wins legislation that compels information sharing.

I know it's good for placing orders to your supplier if you're getting questionable goods. It'd be a real bitch if worst case scenario happened and they got all your email history to your supplier and could document every order you ever placed for goods you shouldn't have been importing.

Just google news story's or look at the cases of people who have been charged for selling high volumes of questionable items on ebay/eCommerce websites. If they come, their taking every thing you have that can store digital media on it for evidence and they'll be looking for those emails.

One thing I've learned from experience, its always the thing you NEVER thought would happen to you that gets you fukd. I try to take every precaution I can and I could give a fux how crazy I sound. If I gave my past experience, what's already happened to me, 99.9% would think I'm a compulsive liar.

It's good practice even if you're only importing a package or two a month. If you don't plan all the way to the end your cheating yourself. You should always expect to succeed beyond your vision.

That kind of elaborates my point from Nate. At any moment a key component of stealth can be rendered useless by one of these companies and most of these accounts are lost.

Humans aren't very good at assessing long term risks. They're good at running when a dude pulls a gun, but not at thinking before visiting that neighborhood in the first place.

Anyway, I am not involved in anything questionable, so the come knocking scenario isn't important to me. But the way privacy is going, having your login location IPs shared is certainly possible.

Ive actually considered switching away from gmail to protonmail in the last few weeks seeing that google has been increasing their scrutiny of gmail accounts and making it more and more difficult to open and maintain them.
At a certain point it just isn't worth the effort to use gmail over other services.
And the added benefit of extra security for the email account is never a bad thing.

Well, if you're committing fraud or selling counterfeits then yes, encrypted email has value.

Otherwise gmail is fine. Gmail isn't going to give out IP addresses without a court order, and ebay/amazon will just shut you down if it gets to the point where they'd be trying to get a court order for your IP address.

^ in the current climate yes... shutting you down would be the path.

But I am talking about a comprehensive program, similar to when they began to get clever with browser fingerprinting.

Well the other stuff they link they can just get from you directly and automatically. Google isn't about to start giving away information, especially personal information.

If Amazon suspects you of wrongdoing they don't try to verify anything, they just close your account and call it a day.

Either way, for my accounts I access the email accounts only on the IP for the amazon account, or on the iphone dedicated for that account. You shouldn't access your ebay/amazon email account from IPs linked to other accounts anyway. What if you accidentally click a link in the email or something that identifies your account or something?

Yes, it costs money, but my accounts are worth $1MM in sales each year for each account, so I have dedicated hardware for each account to reduce the risk of making mistakes.

In regards to eBay Stealth / Amazon Stealth .. blending in is more valuable than sticking out with some unique variable such as a Protonmail email address.

An encrypted email has no application to eBay/Amazon/PayPal.

You can use protonmail with your own domain, though point taken.

It's just that being on this side of the fence with stealth, I watch my behavior and I see all kinds of ways that people like me can be flushed out.

Yeah, I would definitely agree with this.

Using gmail is guaranteed to NOT set off red flags. Having some unusual provider.. you never know.

I also have the feeling that using VCCs and VBAs instead of real credit/debit cards and real bank accounts sets up some red flag somewhere, since ebay/amazon know the BIN #s and routing #s associated with those types of services.

I tried moving to Protonmail, got some BS from them, unusual activity blah blah, was told to contact them, due switching ip's to different countries

Gmail is becoming harder and harder to make without giving a phone number, even when cookies cleared, Fresh IP etc, plus you get phone verification requests more often now. Seems like Sunday is a very bad day to make gmail accounts

Mail.com/Gmx is good because no phone verification, although I had a couple of accounts blocked.

Hotmail good because of aliases
