Default is this a scam?

sold a flash drive to an account created few months ago, has 4 reviews...

today I got a message stating that the product is defected and offering to send it back.

I ben selling SanDisk products for the past two years and none of them ever came defected out of the box. the quality control on these things is just too good for that...

frankly, i am willing to give him his 6 dollars back just to avoid the negative review and the hassle of a returned item.

from the other side, i prefer to avoid any resolutions/returns in the returns section because of the bad reputation that comes with it.

At this moment I'm also afraid of scam.

here is the message I got from the seller, together with some weird photos:
"Dear seller,
Thank you for your fast shipping. But unfortunately, the device is not working for windows. It is detected by Android only. I have herewith attached photos of the problem. I have tried the device with many computers with many operating systems such as Microsoft windows 8, Windows 10 and even Ubuntu. But It shows only the Cruzer Blade device name only. This flash drive cannot be formatted with any windows Operating system. But it is detected by Android. I can send you the device to you again. please reply me soon"

how should I prosed?

Is this a serious question??

Accept the return, refund in full and move on. If you have an issue with doing that then selling on ebay isn't for you.

6 dollars... I guess you can afford the loss. Give full refund and move on.

Oi Vay.

$6 does not bare a 2nd thought for you to instigate a refund.

In your business plan , you should have a nominated amount for nearly an automatic refund.

Good Luck moving forwards.

thank you all for your answers!

it is not the 6 bucks I'm concerned with, it's the bad reputation that binds to your account with every refund...

although after seeing all the above comments I assume that it's just a minor thing

I usually just cancel that issue with address. Nobody ever cares if 1. they are expecting a refund. 2. actually get a refund. No dings on account.

Did he open a case on ebay? or just merely messaging you with regards to the issue? you can refund him through paypal, without sacrificing your stats in your ebay account.

Sounds like he corrupted it while formatting somehow. Send him this then see what it says. Many times defective items are simple user error...

Not worth losing more time and effort on this vs. $6 refund

I know its hard when facing a retarded buyer, its hard to keep your cool believe me i know.
Sometimes its best to suck it up im afraid.
Just refund him with an pretyped apology or whatever and put it out your head.
I sympathize with you.
Buyer are actually retarded/scamming ****s when it comes to dealing with windows products.

**** sorry, this was such an old post. im not even sure why it linked me to this when i posted this morning.
