This second Wild Card has made everything every interesting. Lots of contenders. I mean with Angels up 7 games for top Wild Card spot this would be outta hand in years past. But a huge cluster of teams in AL for the Second spot. Lots of close races in the NL too.

I don't really like how it comes down to a one game playoff to determine who goes to the next series though. I would much rather see the second wild card team have to beat the first wild card team twice to advance.

I dont like the one game knockoff idea either vogeltron...it is quite the close race.

Jays got the better of Orioles last night

I would prefer a 3 game series but the way baseball works it won't happen. So I like the idea of having a benefit of being the top wild card compared to the second one. Even if it is a potential double header or something. In my opinion there should be a slight reward for being the top WC and a disadvantage for being the second one. Just like there is an advantage for winning your division. I guess if both teams finished deadlocked in the standings then do have a one game playoff. Otherwise I think the idea I have is more just.

Agree vogeltron - it does take some effort to get that WC spot and then 1 game to lose it? At least a 3 game or 5 game series...also more revenue for MLB...makes sense

I think because of scheduling you can't do a 5 game series give all the other teams lots of time off. Baseball is different than other sports because they play every day. Potentially a 3 game playoff. But I really like the idea of the 2nd Wild Card having to beat the first one twice. So there is incentive where you fall in the standings.

Right on about the incentive.

As for the Jays...AL East is getting very tight along with the AL wild card.

Royals won - took over Wild Card spot. Mariners won and kept up. Yankees won. Orioles clobbered the Cardinals.

And Jays lost to Detroit - what a fail night

Not looking good for the Jays - forget the AL East pennant...even the wild card spot is looking tough

Oh they'll definitely find a way to increase it to 3 games!

It comes down to money like you said. More games means more money = more revenue.

Same thing happened to basketball years ago. The first round used to be 5 games a few years ago. They increased it to 7 to get those extra games. Worked out well since some of the 7 game series in the first round have been exciting in recent memory.

My Giants are stinking it up as well. It is tough being a baseball fan. Even if your team is Awesome they still lose 40% of the time.

Um, wait...you're a SF Giants fan and its tough to be a fan of them? At least you have 2 recent World Series titles to be proud of.

Try being a 30 year fan of the NY Mets...that's as tough as it gets
