Personal Check as Payment!
 

okay quick question. if i were to accept a personal check as a payment for something...when i deposit the personal check will the person who gave me the check get any of my info besides my name that is on the check?? will my bank give them any information besides my bank account number? and with a bank account number can the person find out any more information about me??

pretty much..with personal checks will my information be given to the person who gave me the check in any way what so ever?

They will have your account number on the back of the check.

But, no, banks do not give out information about account holders unless it is to law enforcement or to a legitimate business with "permissible purpose" and then the information is VERY LIMITED. Banks are highly regulated in this regard.

oh okay. and about personal check reversals..how long does he have til he can't do it anymore just wondering?

No worries, If you have a Merchant account that processes ACH Payments you can Process a Check almost like a Credit card

i dont have a merchant account at the moment..working on it though..any other way to cash of process the check? and how long does he have til he cant void the check or reverse it?

Once the check is cashed and it clears, it is pretty much a done deal. If you are worried, cash it at his bank (if feasible). If not, tell him it takes 10 days to clear.

According to the Check 21 rules, banks must generally make funds available 2 days after the deposit. But it can still bounce if it has not actually cleared.

Once a check is paid, it is very difficult to reverse it. The only way I am aware of is to claim the check was stolen and that the signature is not genuine. And then the bank will want a TON of details! This is not something that is done on a normal basis.

There is no way to "charge back" a check the way you can with a credit card.

After the check clears, he could claim you sold him a ⊗⊗⊗⊗, and it exploded in his face, and the bank will simply tell him to be more careful next time or ask why he did not pay with a credit card...
