| thakid212 | 12-22-2015 10:36 AM | Can you still pick up Western Union/MoneyGram payments if name is blacklisted? Hello everyone, I was wondering if I still could pickup Western Union/MoneyGram payments if my first & last name has been blacklisted?
I read somewhere you could if you just change the address and number on the pickup money form but I wasn't sure if it was true, so I am asking here. |

That's a new one to me. I can only think of illegal activity as being the cause... |

phaz0rz | 12-22-2015 04:36 PM | Re: Can you still pick up Western Union/MoneyGram payments if name is blacklisted? One of my suppliers has me send payment to a different name for every $10k in payments sent. Get your customer to send payment to the name of a family member, then take said family member to W/U with you to get the money. |

That's a new one to me. I can only think of illegal activity as being the cause... | High amounts of transactions from nefarious sources causes WU to reduce their potential risks by declining business with a person.
In Australia, quite a few Asian names come up on their lists. Strangely, two peeps later were arrested for drug trafficking. |
Re: Can you still pick up Western Union/MoneyGram payments if name is blacklisted? If indeed the first and last name are blacklisted, then you can have crazy problems getting the cash since ID is needed. I doubt just changing address would avoid the issue |
thakid212 | 12-23-2015 02:50 AM | Re: Can you still pick up Western Union/MoneyGram payments if name is blacklisted? when a first & last name is blacklisted they wouldn't just prevent everyone with the same name from ever using their service that would be a lot of people especially in a city. So it does make sense to change the address & phone number. |
GreenBean | 12-23-2015 04:19 AM | Re: Can you still pick up Western Union/MoneyGram payments if name is blacklisted? WU are not naive.
Do not think that.

phaz0rz | 12-23-2015 12:43 PM | Re: Can you still pick up Western Union/MoneyGram payments if name is blacklisted? I still think using a family member is the only viable option if you truly are blacklisted...
On a side note, you must be moving some serious dope if you got blacklisted by BOTH w/u and m/g, haha |

I was jus' saying it's an option. Apparently it's a common practice in other countries. |

jeffweico | 12-23-2015 05:57 PM | Re: Can you still pick up Western Union/MoneyGram payments if name is blacklisted? If you send or receive a lot of money via Western Union or MoneyGram, they will ask you for more information. It happened to me. I was not "blacklisted" they just would not let me send or receive any more money until they got some more information from me. I had to provide a copy of the front and back of my driver's license, write a brief description of my business and what it was that I was selling and buying and provide them the documents for my LLC. Once I did that, I was good to go. The rep told me that any year when I sent or received more than $10,000 in payments, this would happen and I would have to go through the process all over. he suggested I save what I sent in so the next time it happened, I could just update anything that had changed.
I get the feeling this is not Western Union or MoneyGram, but the US Government requiring this information. While Western Union has all kids of legitimate uses, it can also be used for illegal things like drug sales, money laundering, etc. I don't think the government cares what you sell on eBay, they are probably looking for money related to drugs, terrorism, or money laundering. |

I've sent well over $30k this year and I've never had to provide them proof of incorporation or anything like that. At one W/U agent I used to go to, they would require 2 forms of ID (License and Social) for anything over $3k. I have to tell them my "occupation" regardless of the amount. I always say retail sales and that works. I went to send money at that location a few weeks ago and they were out of receipt paper, so I went to another W/U agent a mile down the road (a large retailer). At this second W/U agent I have no problems at all sending any amount. I've gone to them twice now with orders totaling around $3500, and they don't even ask for ID. In fact the first time I went I brought my ID and Social like I always do, and the clerk just looked at me like "what's that for?".
I don't know why you would be subject to a $10k cap and I'm not, unless it's some kind of state legislation. Very strange.
To the rest of you, have fun helping your cat fill out a Western Union form. Just make sure you bring your cat's License and Social Security card (if you and your cat live in USA), as that will be required. I don't know if "feline" will work as an occupation, but give it a try and get back to us!
