sorry, silly question but what is a merchant account?
 

I have a shopify store.

I also have a bigcartel using stripe payment system which is going well. I would like to venture into a shopify store to test out some new products but I dont want to associate it with my stripe payment system out of fear it might get some charge backs. losing my stripe would be a big headache.


So I opened a authorize.net account but I am very confused. I thought authroize.net is what allows me to accept credit and debit payments on my shopify store?

Now I am finding out I need a merchant account? What is this?
