Been using Google Checkout a while...
 

I think they're quite good. Never had a problem with them, why do people complain about Google Checkout?

Google checkout can be just as bad as pp, you're just lucky so far.

Are there still the limitation problems?

With Google checkout? Of course, I believe there are limitation problems with every merchant account.

And with google, they tell you less than paypal...one day you have an account and next day nadda :tears:

Yup. Any payment gateway will be the same. They ALL will lock you up if there is even the slightest trust issue. There are little scammers running around the net hammering them all with whatever they can think of. These guys will not blink when it comes to protecting their money. And when customer A pays Seller B its still their money in play and they will protect themselves even if some good guys get hurt.

There are no foolproof, bulletproof payment systems. None. [Well, cash is still untouchable ;)]

Is there anything I can do about this? I mean until there's a problem transaction it's all fine, right? At that point I just open a new stealth checkout account.

The best you can do is try to keep your customers satisfied.

Google checkout is not easy to get back on, they use more then ip, cookies, and flash cookies to track you. I'm not sure if it's your Mac address they track or something more in depth.

Well, you are sorta on the right track. But what you should always do is have backup payment systems in wait. Always. If something goes wrong you really need to be in a position to just flip a switch, change processor and carry on with business. I'm speaking from a non eBay train of thought. I'm not familiar on if its easy to change accounts on ebay or not...

But maybe not with google. Like Lakeman says, they are internet CIA. They get DNA off the keyboard or something. ;)

However: Dont do it when something happens, be ready before something happens.

Really? I have numerous GC accounts, who's had problem getting back on and in what story?

Well, what do you know, right after I post this I get my first GC dispute. Are they really worse than PayPal?

Okay, any advice on how to handle? If not likely to win, should I just create a new stealth account and will they have any recourse against me on the old account or is it just like old PayPal accounts?

Do you mind sharing how you collect payment from your buyer? Do you invoice them manually, use cartmanager, etc.?

The advantage of a REAL merchant account is they will tell you what your monthly processing limit is upfront. When I started out it was $5,000. My rep told me that it could be increased if necessary, but that I should call them if I felt I was going to go over it. About 7 months later, I didn't call but went over the limit (I didn't realize it would happen). They automatically bumped it to $7500 and sent me a letter stating they were reviewing my account for a higher limit. About a week later, I got another letter stating my limit was now at $15,000.

I didn't have any chargebacks, and only had one refund in 7 months, so they probably trusted me by then. I also have good credit. Just a couple of $50 (paid) medical collection accounts and credit grantors don't really care about medical bills.

The problem with Google and PayPal is that they never share this information. So you are left guessing what to do. And, they can close your account at any time, for any reason, "in their sole discretion". How many posts have there been from totally honest sellers that were cut off by PayPal after YEARS of doing business with them? That would NEVER happen with a merchant account - unless they thought you were seriously up to no good. At least, that has been my experience.
