Bigcommerce v Word press + Woocommerce
 

I'm currently in the process of setting up an ecommerce site.

I've been looking at various options including Shopify however with such low margins I can't afford to be giving way transaction fees on top of payment gateway fees too so ruled them out.

I've narrowed it down to BigCommerce and Wordpress + Woocommerce.

It seems woocommerce can be easily integrated with Parcel2go etc which would really help reduce the distribution side of things.

has anyone tried either/both?

Wordpress + Woocommerce is the way to go BUT with WooCommerce you will have a lot of add on fees with plugins, each costing $$$

It's the better long term solution but setup can be time consuming and confusing.

Shopify while expensive makes it really easy to get going quickly with little tech skills. I guess it just depends on what you need and your tech skills to build it yourself to pay for an already done service.

I have fairly limited tech skills in this area.

I’m swaying towards beginning with BigCommerce and then if all goes well and the website is successful I will switch over to wordpresss + woocommerce for the long term

As long as you can keep the domain the same, go for it.

Use your own domain is what I'm saying, don't use something like blowjobmachines.shopify.com. Use your own domain.

paulsblowjobmachines.com

This way you can get away from the website builders and build your own when the time is right. :thumb:

Change of plan, begun with BigCommerce however I didn't take to it. Went for Word Press + WooCommerce, took some time to get everything installed, new theme etc but I believe this is definitely the way forward.
