Membership site

I'm trying to get a membership site up and running. I had an idea to start a basic general purpose IM site to promote adsense and affiliate links, but I decided to make it a membership site so that I can easily build a mailing list and have a newsletter.

Here's the deal. I don't know how to build or maintain a membership site. I heard something about Joomla? If anyone has any tips or knows how to build a site, don't hesitate to post. Thanks.

Joomla is content management system. A lot like wordpress. It won't help you with signups.

You should try getresponse.com to create and run a mailing list. I use it on a lot of sites of mine and it works great.
