Default Shopping Carts that REALLY track inventory.

Does anyone know of a shopping cart that REALLY tracks inventory. Let me explain exactly what I need to accomplish.

I am making a website with Joomla CMS, and signed up for a Mercantec free cart.

I have 5 t-shirts, and they are a variety of sizes (m, l, xl, etc.)
  1. When I setup the "Add to cart" button, I have the choice of creating a dropdown for sizes. (I added every size the t-shirt come in.)
  2. I would like only the sizes I have in stock to appear, based on a spreadsheet I have.
  3. So; when a customer buys the only medium I have in stock, it doesn't appear for the next customer.

Does this require special PHP scripting, or are their carts out there that can do this?

I have heard that Channel Advisor Has something like that.

Channel advisor manages listings for sellers that sell on ebay, amazon and their own sites. I looked into it last year but they charge on sales % basis and their fees seemed excessive.

Thanks, and I too think they are very proud of their software. I've ton a ton a research into this, and have found some carts that track inventory by attribute. The best deal I've found is $30/month $29.95/mo. They had a special going ($5/month first year), but it expired before I found it.

Looks like they extended the special, if anyone needs this kind of service.

I think I'm going to use one of the free Joomla carts for now, and see how things go. As you stated before, most sites fail, and I should keep my intial investment low.

Thanks for all your input, and I'll post on my progress.

Now I need to learn how to make professional looking photos. Mine always look "homemade".

Not sure exactly how you'd ultimately end up doing it but I know with add-ons it can be done.

Google "cubecart" I use it on a couple sites and its well supported by add-on authors

I've actually decided to go with Joomla site CMS, and virtuemart shopping cart. It has the capability I was looking for. I basically setup a parent level product, with stock level zero, and add child level products for the various sizes. When an child item has stock level zero, it does not display for browsing customers. I'm sure it doesn't have a lot of the features some of the paying carts have, but it does what I need, it's free, it's open source (with lots of support in forums), and it's integrated with joomla site cms, which is fully integrated into hostgator console.
