Spreading your options and using Shopify - a wise choice?!?

I am thinking of selling on another platform I don't want to rely 100% on ebay like last time when my seller account went down and i've only just this week started selling again.

I am liking Shopify over bigcommerce - it uses paypal (i=woud I be o.k to use the stealth paypal details - a slight variation of my name and different address) or will I have to open a real paypal account with my real name inc details if i were to use paypal with shopify (my real paypal account has been limited 5 years ago?!?

Shopify also allows you to use Nochex as a payment gateway as well.

I want to sell on an alternative platform and not put all my eggs in Ebay because ebay can shut your account when they please same with paypal and then your stuck down the pan.

Re: paypal with shopify I think it uses https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/merchant (business account) - does this mean I will have to open a new paypal account under my real name and address (my previous paypal on my real name and address was limited 5 years ago) - will this cause a problem if i use a new bank account, new number and a variation of my name?

Anyone used Shopify in the UK with any luck?

You would be wiser to not use old info from a limited paypal, amy.

I would use a couple of payment processors. :thumb: for NOCHEX. You need your own site of course.

Brother uses Shopify and loves it.
Sounds an exciting adventure for you

Shopify makes it easy for people to sell online with their own website.

re: not using old info from previous limited account - it makes sense to use "stealth" paypal instead. All shopfiy would require I presume is the email address for paypal...so i'd stay and use my stealth paypal.

PayPal and Nochex are the 2 payment processors that are more common in the UK and thats who I will use.

I don't want to put all my eggs into ebay - it can go down like the titanic anytime without any warning ebay and paypal can pull the plug - it happened last time so i learnt my lesson - diversify onto different selling platforms.

shopify is self hosted and supposed to be easy to use - i will try the trial.

the only problem will be getting traffic to the site - a simple link in your auctions wil do the trick.

Always good to spread the venues of sale.

Multiple streams of income is the only way to go.

Eggs in many baskets add up.

I would be interested in hearing if Shopify is working for you? Are you able to do any SEO on your own? Directing your ebay customers to your site is a great idea, but I thought any outside links on your auction page was a no no?

@ebazstealth

Yep, getting caught directing your customers to an off ebay site is a nono/

Have to handle this carefully or avoid totally

Hi Greenie,

Thank you for clarifying this. Will definitely stay away from any links. Will just slip something in the packages before they go out. What about an email campaign to past customers? I have been looking on ebay to see if you can do this, but can only find where they allow you to market to your buyers via email or newsletter if they have added you to their "saved sellers" list or by clicking the "sign up for store newsletter". With chances being much lower that buyers would actually do that, I wonder if you can just take it upon yourself to add them to your list until they unsubscribe?

E-mailing a newsletter has been done by many sellers but, in general, customers have a low rate of response.

That`s why these mass marketing campaigns aim for TONS of customers to be e-mailed...it`s ALWAYS a number ratio game. Good luck
