Activity: 0% Longevity: 58% | | Very Interesting Questions about Debit Card/Checking account
So with all of the things going on with paypal I went to my bank to add a debit card to the savings account that I had attached to one of my accts. I was told I would have to link it to my checking account. I told the banker I already had a debit card attached to that account. The banker said no problem and opened up a second debit account for me. So they have the same 12 numbers but the final 4 letters are different and both are different from the checking account number. Kind of confusing.
So my question, I see on paypal that you can attach a debit card to the account instead of a bank account. I already have the checking account linked to a banned paypal account. Can I link the debit card to a new paypal since the account numbers are different. If that works I now have two debit cards that are not linked to any paypal for withdrawal.
Anyone tried this

This topic has been covered before.
On USA SAVINGS accounts, there is something called Regulation D "Reg D" which limits the number of transfers and withdrawals per month to SIX (6). This is one of the reasons banks don't want/allow you to link your debit card to a savings account.
Debit (VISA/MC) cards usually require a Checking or debit type of account to deal with these type of ledger transactions. Chase bank has a special type of account called Chase Liquid that's a debit card with an inbound routing/account number. It's NOT a prepaid account, but works similar to a normal bank account that will work with PayPal.

So as long as the numbers of both debit cards are different, you should be able to use them so long as the names and AVS match up. PayPal cannot see the bank account(s) that are linked to a given VISA/MC Debit/ATM card.

I would not risk getting linked.
Even though the numbers have some differences, paypal could still decide there is a link. | |

You can never be too careful when it comes to PayPal.
As per the stealth guide, make sure you keep records of every account and what info is used on them. Even if you later remove a card or bank, consider it still "linked" and can't ever be used again, period.

So they gave you a 2nd debit card for the same checking account? Or did they give you a new debit card and a new checking account?
Either way, no linkage risk by using new card.

I have never used the debit card for my US bank accounts on US paypal - always the full bank account info.
Is there really an advantage to using the debit card?

Is there really an advantage to using the debit card? | It's advertised as "transfer in minutes using your eligible debit card" so I think the main attraction is the faster transfer time. I've never felt the need to pay extra in order to get my funds a few hours sooner. It only costs $.25 now but if definitely won't be worth it when the new fee structure rolls out later this month (2% of transfer, I think).

Paypal is only accepting a few debit cards at the moment. they call it "approved debit cards" for a reason. I could only link national bank cards such as BofA. They would not accept my regional banks or local banks a month ago.

It's possible the bank has to accept push debit transfers from PP, and most don't. Found something somewhat relevant on the community forums suggesting instant transfers are enabled by some sort of agreement between banks and PP: Quote:
I was recently able to use this feature for a few days before they started having issues. You have to have a connected debit or credit card that was connected. I was able to use a Wells Fargo card. The option to do some when you make a transfer and select it coming from your PayPal account and going to either your bank or PayPal card. If the connected card was an option, it would show up here as something you could transfer too. With my personal banking credit union card, that card would not show up because they use another service and don't agree to PayPal stuff (their words). However, with my Wells Fargo business account, it did work. Anyway, it took several hours of back and forth on the phone between the banks and PayPal before I finally found someone at PayPal to help out. The first PayPal people automatically blamed my banks as the problem. The helpful PayPal person tracked down a problem that apparently the IT Dept is aware of. On November 1st, they lost most if not all of the ability to do the instant card transfers and are working on it. Hope that makes sense. That's the information I was able to find out. | Context : (PP link)
