Default Apple is curbing webtracking...make it harder for ebay and AMZ to use fingerprinting

Here is the article https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-44360273

Apple also said that MacOS Mojave would combat a technique called "fingerprinting", in which advertisers try to track users who delete their cookies.

The method involves identifying computers by the fonts and plug-ins installed among other configuration details.

To counter this, Apple will present web pages with less detail about the computer.

"As a result your Mac will look more like everyone else's Mac, and it will be dramatically more difficult for data companies to uniquely identify your device," Mr Federighi explained.

I wonder if other browsers like firefox will follow. If not will apple be the future for stealth?

Nice share. Interesting how everyone is now taking a privacy orientated approach.

I imagine Firefox will follow suite (if it hasn't done so already). Not so sure about Chrome (owned by Google, 90% income from ads).

It doesn't affect eBay/PayPal though, not at the moment at least, as they don't go to such depths of tracking.

But the key thing here which I really like is ...

"As a result your Mac will look more like everyone else's Mac"

...that is essentially what you want. To fit in with the crowd.

I myself will need more than just that to switch to apple products - a lot more.
But as you said I can see others following this trend as privacy has become a big topic in recent months.

I see firefox doing the same to a certain extent, but its much easier for Apple to make all their users blend. I agree that privacy is a human right, lets see if other companies agree.

The kicker is you have to use a Safari browser and who wants to use that?

I use safari for personal use. Doesn’t bother me. Then again I only surf the web. I mean this is a start. Companies tend to mimic everything Apple does. So maybe this sets a precedent.

Really? lol. I've always found Apple to be a step or two behind in everything. They let others test the waters, and they implement what works afterwards.

P.S. Safari still has a lot of work to be done, Firefox and Chrome have always been way ahead of it.

My go to browser has always been Chrome (non-stealth browsing)... its just super snappy. No lag. Ever.

One would think using an outdated version of IE would solve this problem from sheer incompatibility.

Yeah, it has sense, we have to forget about the private life
