Sales tax federal tax id number
Amazon.ca requires a BN (Business Number, similar to an EIN) to collect sales tax. Amazon.ca calls it a Federal Registration Number.
Amazon.ca doesn't seem to verify the BN like Amazon.com does with EIN's. Amazon.com EIN's are verified with the IRS database for name/business name + EIN MATCH, if theres a MISMATCH you are asked to correct it. Amazon.ca doesn't seem to do this, even though you can publicly check BN's on the CRA's website for validity.
Does anyone know what the consequences would be for using a random BN to collect sales tax (where they cant use their own suspended BN number)? Has anyone used a random one for an extended time? Has Amazon.ca requested for you to verify or update your BN or claim it is not valid?
Id like to ask if anyone has anymore information on this or anything regarding sales tax collection on Amazon.ca, there's no info on this in the forums (i've checked all keywords). |
