How does paypal verify documents? Anyone asked about school mascots? Old address?
My legit account was limited years ago for selling high risk expensive items, asked for id, SSN, invoices, gave all three, they are legit items, no complaints. Paypal wanted to ask me questions from public records "what is your high school mascot?", "what is your previous address?", "which of the following people are you related to?"... but the lady couldn't find enough questions so she just said "I don't feel comfortable" and gave the ban hammer. All appeals denied.
Two months later I call in trying to recover the funds and a supervisor fully restores the account (still selling on it to this day) and says they shouldn't have banned you just because you are 19 and don't have enough info in public records.
Decided paypal isn't safe and friend let me use his info for another account. Got careless and sold a few too many items and now asked for ID and invoices.
Again, legit items so invoices is easy.
ID is what I'm worried about.
Asked friend and he sent me pics of both passport and driver's license.
Problem is he's an international student and not US citizen so I doubt he has anything in public record and he's in his early 30s.
How does paypal verify docs? Do they look in public records?
Passport
pros: in another country so paypal can't try to verify too much
cons: in another country so they might get suspicious and not like it since they can't verify much even though it's legit
License:
pros: it's a license and it's real and they are use to seeing licenses so it's as expected
cons: it'll be red flag when they look at public records and can't find anything especially since he's in his 30s and they expect people that age to public records
