Re: How to avoid USA seizers of a domain?
Corporations seem to have backed off a little now but at one point they were rabid in trying to take down anything remotely resembling their business when the internet was blossoming and they became aware of likenesses.
Plenty of cases where savvy folk had the wherewithal to register domain names yet the courts made them hand them over either though ignorance of a blossoming new business world or money simply talking.
Reminds me of an early test case in, if I remember rightly, Blackpool UK, where a 100 year old hardware store called "McDonalds" suddenly found a burger joint opening just down the road. Didn't take long for them to get on his back simply over his name and facia and he laughed it off and let it go to court. They sided with the burger chain and he lost everything. Business gone.
Like I said, the courts aren't as accommodating nowadays unless it clear your trying to abuse the system but it still happens.
I have sympathy for those who are maliciously targeted by corporations who think they're entitled, but not for those deliberately looking to abuse trademarked names.
