Default Amazon filing lawsuits against bad actors

Just read this piece on Amazon taking action against those providing stealth documents.

"Amazon has filed six lawsuits against individuals and groups using various illicit schemes to counteract processes designed to prevent the listing of counterfeit products on its online retail site.

The e-commerce giant’s Counterfeit Crimes Unit (CCU) said the “bad actors” operated Amazon selling accounts with falsified documentation so they could circumvent its seller approval and product authentication processes for restricted product categories.

According to court documents, in exchange for a few, defendants would log into bad actors’ selling accounts to provide ⊗⊗⊗⊗ or falsified authentication documents, allowing them to sell “counterfeit and other inauthentic or fraudulent products…without proof of a supply of authentic products.”

Amazon claims it reviewed the documents provided by the bad actors and has confirmed they were falsified and sourced from the defendants. It then worked with an outside investigator to pose as an interested party and contact many of these online sites with the stated intention of selling a product that required additional verifying documents to be sent to Amazon.

In response, the defendants provided ⊗⊗⊗⊗ documents to Amazon, confirming the bad actors’ scheme, while many other bad actors advertising similar services collected fees without performing the illicit service.

In a statement, Amazon said the CCU often partners with brand owners to file joint lawsuits against those attempting to sell counterfeits on its platform, but added: “The lawsuits filed today target a new category of bad actor operating an emerging and evasive scheme.”

It also said attempts to create new selling accounts for illicit activity decreased from 6 million attempts in 2020 to 700,000 in 2023, as a result of “a combination of advanced machine learning capabilities, robust vetting, and expert human investigators.”

It looks like they went after third parties who were selling creative documents to Amazon sellers (who themselves were selling counterfeits)

Smokes and mirrors - they will still try to profit where they can...it'll take 2rd party class action to punish them if they sell f*kes...

I am sure it was not about stealth docs but about people who were doing video interviews for money

On the assumption you've read the article, what makes you think they're lying and you 'are sure' it is about video interviews??

...or are you yet again just trying to be deliberately contrary to derail a topic?

At some level I guess it is, only you can decide what that level is if you're knowingly selling counterfeit goods and the size of your operation.

You could see it as "six lawsuits globally, I like those odds".

I doubt they can identify people selling simple docs doctored on photoshop and I do not think such docs are of importance as it takes at least one interview to circumvent verification

You've gone from 'I'm sure' to 'I doubt'. Guess what, they can.

Read the article or read it again.....

amazon will not tell full details unless they release court documents. if they care about doctored docs this can only be on verified accounts which provide bogus invoices and utility bills but again they said they hunt down people who sell such docs

Sigh....this is not about account verification, it's about circumventing process and procures to get product approval and then try and validate/legitimise their wares.

They kinda do tell us details...

This was an interesting thread which you're trying to derail. Why?

For all of them? So why did they get brands involved then?

Look, you haven't read all the complaints nor understand them and I only gave them as an example of Amazon releasing information. We don't even know if the ones in the link I gave are the same as the ones suggested in the article OP posted, some of them go back many years.

Lets stick to the purpose of the thread shall we?
