Social Commerce - new stealth platforms. Facebook and TikTok Shops possible?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a member of this forum for many years on and off but can’t access my account - not a newbie by any means.

I’ve been doing ecom since late 90s. I have my own brand currently but also will occasionally resell things or venture into a random project to keep myself entertained.

It all started with ebay suspensions back in the day when I was doing more reselling, even though I always sold legit things. This forum got me back on ebay many times. Funny thing, I still remember the first time seeing this site and wondering if it would work and sure enough I learned a vast amount of knowledge of the stealth world and it did work.

Fast forward to when I had my own brand and was doing 7 figures on amazon, one day I notice amazon basics knocked off one of my products and literally was selling the identical thing, it was on a hot selling item. Sure enough section 3 violation shortly ensued.

I started TikTok Shops probably about a year ago or so. I found it interesting. I was selling my own branded items, and some unbranded 3d printed items. Surely enough, I got hit with IP complaints on the 3d prints. Wasn’t doing anything wrong, in fact I went about it exactly how my rep told me to, so that I would avoid any issues. I got hit with 4 product violations and a permanent ban that can’t be appealed.

Anyone successfully make a stealth TikTok Shop? I’m sure it’s the same basic idea, just I wonder what they track. It’s interesting because the other day I got an email invite for my brand to join TikTok Shops, and that invite was sent to the same email address I was using for my TikTok Shop. Makes no sense.

Then there is Facebook. I have restrictions on advertising that I can do, kinda went nuts with FB ads back in the day when it was so cheap. Apparently I had complaints about quality of content or something.

I am trying to expand my DTC and not rely so much on these 3rd party marketplaces but you sorta have to. And I can’t promote my Shopify without instagram and Facebook ads.

So what do I do? Anyone have any ideas whatsoever what FB and TT track? I tried making new FB accounts and they always get linked. Not sure what to try next. Anyone have experience here? Social ecom is the way of the future and is here to stay, so surely we should be prepared.

Facebook is pretty easy last time I try, new device, new phone number, use a name that sounds real. Should be fine to even reuse home ip. Use a different card to pay for ads

I had an account many years ago. I was desperate so I made my username “help needed!” Or something like that. Don’t know the email or pw though.

TikTok is POINTLESS for branded goods.

Problem with a lot of these platforms is that they want to have their cake and eat it

The want seamless buyer experience , zero IP / Copyright issues , squeaky clean selling practices and at the same time offer the service up to anyone with an a user account so they can churn income on the seller and transaction fees

Any problems within the marketplace immediately get directed to the seller and usually by force

Sellers often being individuals or small businesses who aren't in anyway equipped to deal with the pressure being applied by the platform

Can't solve the problem in 24 hours !?! ok we'll terminate your account permanently and help ourselves to your funds too.

I'm very very wary about doing business on these marketplace type platforms these days theres just too much red tape and zero support for sellers


Tiktok and Etsy I think are probably two of the worst , although I hear Amazon are dodgy C*nts too

I literally got suspended twice for customers intentionally scamming me by buying $1000+ worth of goods, or $500+, then claiming they didn't receive the goods. If I remember correctly, each time they clearly stated the tracking showed delivered, but they don't have the package.

So, TikTok looks at my account and says I'm high risk because their policy is to cater towards the consumer regardless of facts. The second time I opened an account, I thought I was being smart so I made sure to use TikTok labels, or have signature confirmation. Both those still did not help me.

I do sell things that could be considered high risk like Nike shoes, although I don't sell Nike or shoes. Similar to it, so I maybe attract bad customers but I don't even there are policies in place to prevent scammers. I'd argue there are just as much buyers who are scammers as sellers are.

I had someone buy $1000+ worth of stuff, then opened claims saying he didn't have the package. This was with signature confirmation via USPS. I showed TikTok the signature he signed for, and it was linked directly on USPS website so I couldn't be fabricating it. Didn't matter, the rate of sales vs claims put me in high risk so I was suspended, and they stole my money.

TikTok stole over $6000+ from me.

Ebay, and Poshmark are the most ethical of any of these marketplaces because they at least give your money back after suspending. Poshmark always does to my knowledge, eBay majority of the time.

TikTok and Mercari steal it.

Like I said not viable for any type of commerce at scale just quick cash grabs if your lucky

The sooner something comes and disrupts all these social platforms the better

Hopefully A.I will break them in the next decade along with consumerism all together

I recommend you open a new TikTok thread.
