Default Ebay's 50% seller deduction tool?

Always been curious about this. As I start to sell more expensive items in the $1000+ range I worry about the day that a buyer returns something that requires me to use this tool to recoup some losses from a fraudulent return

Anyone had to use this tool before? Is there a limit on the $ deduction you can go up to? Im sure ebay just doesnt allow sellers to claim 50% deductions on a $3000 computer... do they?

The deduction for a return not as you sent?
I don't believe there is a limit to the amount.

it is possible but be careful not to use it frequently and on large amounts , if ebay start losing money it will be easier to suspend you

Some sellers would not sell to any one with low or no feedback.

I don't think I've seen that tool.

I didn't know it was a tool. I knew there was a mechanism if you sell new sealed, and someone returns not in the condition you sent it - you are allowed to keep part of the funds.

Yes it has been around for couple years. To be able to use the deduction tool, you must be a TRS and offer 30 day free returns. Generally if a return comes back damaged, different item returned, opened if item was sealed, you can use an appropriate percentage as a deduction to the refund. You can really only use the 50% without eBay having an issue with it, if the item is different or comes back damaged heavily. The tool is meant to speed up problematic returns rather than contacting eBay to deal with buyer issues. If you use the deduction and the buyer complains, eBay will generally review the case and may issue the deduction on their tab to the buyer. If you abuse the tool, it may not be an option going forward. Bottom line, if you are going to use it, make sure you send pictures and document the reason for using it, in the return case.

To answer the $3k question, yes you can take up to 50% off if it arrives as a different product back, heavily damaged, or broken. 50% should be used very sparingly
