We’re reaching out to let you know that we’ve placed a temporary Payment account reserve on your shop.

Payment account reserves can be temporarily placed on any account because of recent shop changes or activity—this can include factors like the examples listed below. We know you may have been selling on Etsy for a while, so we wanted to share more info about why this happened and what to do next.

Like many other marketplaces, we have reserves to help protect sellers and buyers by creating a buffer so your Payment account balance doesn’t go negative. This means we won’t have to charge your card on file for any refunds or unexpected charges (like a chargeback from a buyer’s credit card company), unless there aren’t enough funds in your reserve.

Why are my funds being held?

As outlined in our Etsy Payments Policy, reserves can be driven by a combination of factors, including:

A large increase in sales
A large increase in cancellations or refunds to buyers
Many of your orders didn’t ship in time
Many of your orders didn’t have tracking info, or Etsy couldn’t verify the tracking info you added
A history of low reviews

What does this mean for my shop?

During the temporary reserve period, 50% of your sales funds for orders with physical items won’t be available for deposit. This money in reserve is yours and will still show up in your Payment account. You’ll be able to receive these funds as soon as you ship your order with a tracking number that Etsy can verify, or after 45 days—whichever comes first. When will the reserve be lifted?

We’ll remove the Payment account reserve in 90 days, as long as there are no more holds on your account. You’ll get an email from us when this happens.


Nothing like Etsy making life even harder on an account several years old with no issues. It seems I am just a little too successful and they need to knock me down a bit...

Sorry it took so long to reply, things have been crazy. Yes, I think it is an automated AI message because of a sudden jump in sales over the father's day week timeframe. It compares overall account metrics with last year's numbers and because of this delightful economy, if you are selling 'too much' 'too fast' it trips it.

No major issues with the account, just the usual tightwads and problem customers every now and then who can never be satisfied regardless of what you the seller does, but they are few and far between. All orders ship asap with tracking, no issues there. The account is several years old and well established selling a physical product, so that's why I was kind of surprised to see a limitation. Now that I think about it, AI has secretly been in control of most e-commerce websites for several years now behind the scenes, so I believe this is what flagged it... Silly me, I am used to a world where if you call PayPal you could speak to a human in minutes. Now, with this 'new world', your case sits for days or weeks before a human can even lay eyes on it...

No, it is mid-range physical product, not too many scammers just the usual from today's populace... We sell international as well as US, mostly US and Canada

Yep, no gaypal anymore, like agent said, you get an email and they decide based on delivery status, etc. One thing I will say in etsys favor is their policy to refund a purchase to a buyer and let the seller keep the earnings, meaning Etsy covers the transaction and neither party pays anything. They have done this a few times for me, in cases where the item is delivered damaged or if I use their shipping service and it is lost, etc...

it helps if you print your label on Etsy,also it covers amount up to $250.
