PayPal error: needs card update, no balance option
Hey everyone,
I’ve been using my PayPal account without issues for about 2 years. The card I had linked expired around a year ago, but since I only use PayPal to pay for stuff (never to withdraw money), I didn’t bother updating it. I usually just keep some balance and pay directly from there, and it’s always worked fine.
Recently though, I ran into a problem. I made one purchase with no issue, but when I tried to make a second purchase right after, PayPal wouldn’t let me pay with my balance. Instead, I got an error saying I need to update my card. There was no option to just pay from balance.
To clarify: this is a real account with all my actual info — not a stealth account. The only complication is that I’m in another country and don’t have access to the banks in the country where my PayPal is registered. So renewing or adding a new card isn’t really an option for me right now. Ideally, I’d just continue using my balance as before.
I logged into my account to check if there were any alerts or restrictions, but everything looks normal.
I’m also using a trusted Residential Proxy that I’ve relied on for years, so I don’t think that should be the issue.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal for PayPal to suddenly require an updated card, or is it a sign they might ask for additional verification later? I’d appreciate any advice.
