Default PayPal refund dispute – who is responsible?

Hi everyone,

I sold a digital item on eBay. The buyer paid via PayPal, but then opened a dispute through PayPal. PayPal refunded the buyer in their favour.

I’ve since spoken to both PayPal and eBay, but they’re each blaming the other:

PayPal told me that since the payment didn’t “go into my account directly,” it’s an eBay issue.

eBay told me that since PayPal processed the refund, they are locked out and can’t appeal the decision.

So I’m stuck in the middle, unable to appeal, with both parties refusing responsibility.

👉 Has anyone else experienced this? Should PayPal be the one to handle it since the dispute was opened there, or does eBay have any power to step in?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

The buyer first opened a "transaction not recognized" through Ppal, when I showed this was a lie, he was allowed to change that to "Item Not as described" Ppal closed the case in his favour. Neither, party - ebay or ppal are giving me the grounds to appeal this decision.
